Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.
Red Chris is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block caving—an advanced mining method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transformation represents one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.

#####Your Impact
As Underground Mine Manager, you will lead the operational readiness and execution of underground mining activities supporting the Red Chris Block Cave Project.
This role is responsible for overseeing underground mining operations, ensuring safe and efficient development and production while aligning operational performance with project milestones and long-term mine plans.
You will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage contractor performance, and ensure underground activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Newmont’s operational excellence standards. Your leadership will play a critical role in establishing the operational foundation for one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments.
#####As a Part of Our Team, You Will
- Lead and manage underground mining operations supporting the transition from open pit to block cave mining.
- Oversee underground development and production activities, ensuring alignment with mine plans, schedules, and operational targets.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements, promoting a strong safety culture across underground operations.
- Drive operational performance by monitoring productivity, equipment utilization, and underground mine control systems.
- Manage underground mining contractors, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project standards.
- Collaborate with technical services teams including mine planning, geotechnical, ventilation, and engineering to support safe and effective underground operations.
- Implement operational excellence practices including short interval control and performance monitoring to improve production efficiency.
- Develop and mentor underground operational teams, building leadership capability and technical strength across the operation.
- Support operational readiness for block cave mining, including systems, processes, and workforce development.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to optimize underground mining performance and reduce operational risk.
#####Requirements for Success in This Role
- Degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
- Significant experience in underground mining operations, ideally within large-scale or complex mining environments.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing operational teams and underground mining contractors.
- Experience supporting underground mine development, production operations, or block cave projects is highly valued.
- Strong understanding of mine planning, mine control systems, and underground operational practices.
- Proven ability to drive safety performance, operational efficiency, and team accountability.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to operate effectively in remote mining environments and high-performance operational settings.
#####Your Work Environment
This role will support the Red Chris Block Cave Project located in northern British Columbia.
The position is expected to be based in Canada and operate on a rotational schedule of 15 days on / 13 days off, supporting site-based operations at Red Chris. Alternative work arrangements may be considered depending on project and operational requirements.
You will support a remote underground mining project environment and work closely with multidisciplinary project and operational teams to ensure successful engineering delivery.
Newmont provides coordinated transportation to and from site through designated marshalling points located in:
- Vancouver
- Kelowna
- Calgary
- Smithers
Travel arrangements are coordinated to ensure safe and reliable access to site.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$175,600 - 263,340 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
