OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting, financial statement preparation, reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. He/she combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles. The ideal candidate also has experience collaborating and/or managing a team of accountants. Experience in the restaurant or casino industry is a definite asset.

This role includes ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting tasks. The incumbent thrives in a fast-paced environment, is able to prioritize multiple tasks, and adapts easily to change. They are familiar with all accounting procedures and can manage daily financial transactions end-to-end.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Full-cycle accounting, financial statement preparation, month-end/year-end close.
  • Maintain the trial balance and general ledger and prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations of cash, accounts receivable, food and beverage inventory, prepaid expenses, accounts payable, revenue and expenses.
  • Review work performed by other members of the finance team and provide feedback.
  • Ensure expense accounting aligns with budget classifications for multiple departments.
  • Review monthly credit card summaries and statements.
  • Prepare and remit filings for indirect taxes (GST, PST, WHT).
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounting and financial reporting processes and lead the implementation.
  • Identify any errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending.
  • Provide technical support and advice for the finance team and others.
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
  • Liaise with Accounting Manager and/or Financial Controller to improve financial procedures.
  • Collaborate with various department heads and provide ad hoc financial information.
  • Available to work the occasional weekend day as a back-up for inventory counts.
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Accounting designation (or working towards) is an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in an accounting environment.
  • Proven experience as an accounting supervisor or senior accountant.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures.
  • In-depth understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close process.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English.
  • Hands-on experience with Dynamics NAV is an asset.
  • Experience in the restaurant or casino industry is an asset.

CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to obtain a valid GPEB registration.
  • Ability to complete all BCLC required trainings.
  • Serving it Right Certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Required to sit, stand and walk during working hours.
