Join us, this is where your career story takes off. Overview of role: WestJet is seeking an Intermediate Data Analyst team member for the progressive, essential, and fun Data Delivery – Data Products & Delivery team.

As an Intermediate Data Analyst, you will be responsible for designing and developing code, verifies, tests, documents, amends, and refactors moderately complex programs/scripts and integration services. You will work with a team that directly builds and delivers data products to meet business objectives and outcomes.

Key deliverables include:

  • Build data products and solutions in alignment with the Digital and Data Delivery strategy.
  • Write Python or SQL code for most projects, including automated tests.
  • Work with product teams to define and capture data modeling requirements
  • Provide input and subject-matter expertise on future data products
  • Produce detailed designs and document work using required standards, methods, and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
  • Translate logical designs into physical designs.
  • Find ways to improve code/scripts and system robustness, resilience, and stability.
  • Advise on the right way to apply data development standards and methods, ensuring compliance, and maintain technical responsibility for all the stages and iterations of a data development project.
  • Lead review of own work and that of colleagues’.
  • Mentor junior team members to promote a communal learning and knowledge sharing culture; provide technical leadership.
  • Ensure that assigned daily support activities are dealt with in a successful and timely manner.
  • Responsible for the code/scripts that extract, transform, and clean data landing into our Data Warehouse.
  • Work with operational partners to ensure the supportability of new features/products and to provide timely technical support and fixes to production issues.
  • For assigned customer requests: Communicate with requestors effectively, frequently and responsively to their concerns, issues, feedback, and questions. Advise on the best solution to meet the requestor’s objectives.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or related field
  • 3+ years of experience working in very large data warehouse environments
  • 3+ years of demonstrated data developer experience in SQL development and report creation
  • 3+ years of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence experience in a project environment
  • Experience and proficiency with Data dimensional modeling, data analysis and data mining
  • Self-driven and self-learner
  • Expert in writing and tuning SQL scripts
  • Experience with ETL and data warehouse automation tools
  • Experience developing in Power BI; Tableau is a bonus
  • Experience with Azure and/or AWS analytic cloud solutions
  • Experience delivering custom solutions using the Scrum delivery methodology
  • Strong data related analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ability to understand analytic specifications, and translating these specifications into visualizations and/or underlying code
  • Strong ability to develop meaningful, repeatable, and consistent quality checks throughout the development process
  • Ability to independently design, and implement data visualization solutions using data visualization best practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non- technical stakeholders
  • A work ethic based on a strong desire to exceed expectations
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, multi-task, and prioritize workload
  • Experience conducting large scale data analysis to support business decision making
  • Experience in designing and delivering cross functional custom reporting solutions
  • Experience with WhereScape and Snowflake
  • Experience with JIRA or Azure DevOps
  • Expertise with Microsoft BI toolset, including creating and editing: Dim tables, Fact tables, Stored procedures (SSIS), and Scheduled jobs
  • Working knowledge of statistics
