About the role

As a self-regulatory organization, the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) takes our responsibility of setting high-quality regulatory and investment industry standards seriously, while protecting investors and supporting healthy capital markets in Canada. Join a growing team and contribute to the dynamic and complex world of Quebec and Canadian capital markets.

The Law Student will be an integral part of CIRO’s Regulatory team (Montreal Office) and support it in its various activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research case law relating to disciplinary matters
  • Monitor legislative changes pertaining to the investment and mutual fund industries
  • Monitor financial news and prepare summaries of relevant information
  • Design work tools to help the Regulatory team in its work
  • Support the national background check program
  • Support teams involved in transferring and performing mutual fund responsibilities at CIRO
  • All other related tasks

Key Skills and Competencies:

Must-Haves

  • Law school degree (undergraduate or graduate), completed or in progress
  • Knowledge of capital markets regulation or completion of courses on this topic

Nice-to-Haves

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks appropriately and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

CIRO is a pan-Canadian organization that oversees all investment dealers and trading activity in marketplaces across Canada This position requires the ability to communicate with employees in CIRO regional offices and other CIRO stakeholders across Canada. Accordingly, proficiency in both official languages of Canada (French and English) is required. Due to the frequent interactions with internal and external English-speaking members, clients, representatives, firms, Canadian provincial and territorial securities regulators, and employees located outside of Quebec, the position requires full fluency in English.
