Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor, Voice & Data Networks, this position is responsible for the ongoing operation and support of the Region’s LAN, WAN and Cloud networking technologies.
This includes asset management, maintaining a state of good repair of all network components, maintaining documentation, monitoring and troubleshooting network performance, fault isolation and post analysis. Provide support on the Information and Operational Technology environments at Halton Region, this includes systems such as AMI, ATMS and SCADA.
Duties & Responsibilities
Network Design
- Plan, design and implement network connectivity to meet business objectives.
- Install and configure hardware using routers, switches and firewalls.
- Evaluate and install networking hardware, software, operating systems and software applications.
Troubleshooting/Technical Support
- Operate monitoring systems and analyzes network performance across the Region’s LAN, WAN, cloud network and wireless infrastructure and recommend enhancements to meet changing network demands.
- Provides network hardware and software operational support by responding, analyzing, researching and resolving technical issues via telephone, remote access, or onsite, ensuring service levels are maintained.
- Communicate and escalate network incidents to internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain network infrastructure and performs regular security risk analysis to ensure state of good repair.
- Creates, manages, inventories, and monitors network hardware and agreements.
Collaboration
- Work with external vendors to monitor, measure and manage network performance and service level agreements.
- Generate reports for management on network performance and security risks.
- Leverage team support system, resources and education to assist with key decisions.
Documentation
- Maintain comprehensive technical system documentation of network configuration, design and initiate change management processes.
- Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Method of Procedures (MOP) and technical design documentation.
Cybersecurity
- Adhere to Halton Region Cybersecurity policies and governance.
- Participate in Cybersecurity and Disaster Recovery programs.
Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Computer Science.
- Five (5) years hands on IT and OT Networking experience.
- Experience with Cisco Nexus and enterprise products, core and edge devices utilizing layers 2 and 3.
- Comprehensive understanding of routing, TCP/IP protocol, DNS, DHCP, LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN and ZTNA technologies.
- Solid understanding of LAN/WAN configuration and design, POE, Firewalls and Cisco ISE.
- Experience with Microsoft products including Windows Operating Systems, Active Directory, and MS Intune.
- A fundamental understanding of Vlan segmentation, firewalls, IPSEC tunneling, cloud technologies, IoT, VPN technologies and authentication and encryption methods.
- Networking certifications such as Cisco, Fortinet, Microsoft and equivalent.
