Position Summary The Project HSE Advisor is responsible for providing field and administrative Health, Safety, and Environmental support to site maintenance, small projects, and CAM’s leadership. The role consists of approximately 70% field engagement and 30% administrative work, with a focus on hazard mitigation, compliance, and safety culture enhancement. The successful candidate will work closely with both CAM leadership and client representatives to drive consistent, high-quality safety outcomes.
Candidates who are local to the area will be given priority due to the operational requirements and duration of the role. Key Responsibilities Field Responsibilities
- Champion and uphold CAM’s CORE safety values across the workforce.
- Conduct effective daily toolbox meetings and pre-shift safety briefings.
- Identify and report unsafe behaviors, non-compliance, or at-risk conditions to site supervision.
- Ensure timely reporting and thorough documentation of all incidents, hazards, and near misses.
- Review Pre-Task Analysis (PTA) and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) for completeness and clarity.
- Coach and mentor employees struggling with hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Collect and validate Safety Observation Reports (SORs); input findings into internal systems and provide actionable feedback.
- Conduct onboarding walkthroughs for new hires using CAM Walkthrough Guides.
- Respond to injuries or incidents by leading scene control, witness interviews, and initial investigations.
- Support return-to-work and modified duty programs.
- Actively promote and recognize positive safety behaviors to reinforce a culture of accountability.
- Conduct daily safety audits; submit reports for payroll processing as required.
- Facilitate area-specific audits to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Promote visible field engagement and positive working relationships with craft teams.
- Lead or participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses in compliance with Alberta OHS and client requirements.
- Facilitate emergency response drills and preparedness planning.
- Participate in safety audits and inspections in alignment with client standards.
Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CAM’s Safety Program, Energy Safety Canada guidelines, Suncor EH&S policies, and Alberta OHS legislation.

Generate and submit incident notification forms to HSE and site managers.

Assist in incident investigations and root cause analysis, including:

Witness statements
-
Investigator notes
-
Incident reports and summaries
-
High-Value Learnings (PowerPoint presentations)
-
Supporting documents (permits, PTAs, etc.)
-
Present Bi-Weekly HSE Communication Meetings as required.
-
Ensure completion and submission of HSE training sign-in sheets.
-
Contribute to Turnaround Readiness Reviews (TRR) for project preparedness.
-
Maintain an HSE action register, tracking concerns and corrective actions.
-
Keep a detailed logbook of significant events, conversations, and resolutions.
-
Participate in HSE team meetings, client EH&S meetings, and turnaround discussions.

Ensure C040 WCB Employers Reports are completed and submitted in a timely manner.

Submit audit results, observation data, and incident learnings to both CAM and client systems (e.g., Enablon or similar platforms).

Maintain familiarity with and apply Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) principles where required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of HSE experience in Alberta, ideally within the oilsands or heavy industrial sector.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta OHS regulations and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication, mentorship, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and within a high-performance team.
- Strong analytical skills with incident investigation and root cause analysis experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Enablon, and SAP (an asset).
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent certification.
