SUSTAINABILITY SPECIALIST

SALARY RANGE: $73,592 - $97,321

HIRING RANGE: $73,592 - $93,930

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Energy Management Coordinator, the Sustainability Specialist assists in the development and maintenance of the Sustainability Framework. The Sustainability Specialist applies principles of sustainability and energy management in order to meet the goals as set out in the Sustainability Framework; identifies, analyzes, and implements strategies that will promote conservation of energy and environment; interacts with Internal and external stakeholders to further the sustainability goals of TVDSB; and completes projects as assigned by the Energy Management Coordinator and the Manager, Capital Projects in order to further the goals of TVDSB’s Sustainability Framework and Conservation and Demand Management Plan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Manager/Supervisor to update, coordinate, and report on the Sustainability Framework

  • Assist in the promotion of sustainability within TVDSB

  • Identify and adapt applicable sustainability best practices

  • Work with schools and Environmental education Staff to further Sustainability education within TVDSB

  • Identify and apply for funding/incentive opportunities for Sustainability projects/actions

  • Emissions Analysis and Reporting based on goals of Sustainability Framework

  • Develop, update, and maintain plans required to meeting legislated waste reporting and reduction requirements

  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain Waste Auditing program and waste Audit records

  • Develop plan to meet or exceed waste reduction and diversion rate reductions goals as set out in the Sustainability Framework

  • Assist with Energy Auditing and building recommissioning

  • Assist with Utility Bill Management activities

  • Assist with Energy Analysis and Reporting

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of a four (4) year university degree in related field of study (Environmental studies, Engineering, Science) and more than 1-year related work experience or a three (3) year College diploma in field (Building science, Environmental, or Sustainability related course) and more than 3 years related work experience. The incumbent must demonstrate sufficient technical and interpersonal skills to successfully meet the expectations of this position.

The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB; known as English-language Public District School Board No. 11 prior to 1999) is a public school board in southwestern Ontario. It was created on January 1, 1998 by the amalgamation of the Elgin County Board of Education, The Board of Education for the City of London, Middlesex County Board of Education, and Oxford County Board of Education.The TVDSB serves an area over 7,000 square kilometres which includes urban, suburban and rural communities.
