About the role
Purpose:
The Quality Manager has direct responsibility for the site’s ISO certification including process audits, work procedures, corrective and preventative actions. The corporate Variation Management program involving SPC, Control Plans, 8D Root Cause Analysis and CCAR’s are within this process. Responsible for assuring quality products are produced through the control of processes and raw materials.

QC Technicians - 5 directly
Dimensions of Position:
The cost of poor quality impacts the plant’s bottom line. Control of non-conformance within the associated quality systems mitigates the financial impact of poor quality. Exposures in the 25,000 GBP range are possible.
Key Result Areas:
- Operate with corporate quality in implementation of Variation Management tools (Root Cause analysis, Control plans, SPC, etc).
- Maintain the CCAR and SCAR systems.
- Ensure plant activities meet all ISO requirements.
- Liaison with corporate R&D on quality related issues.
- Maintain incoming raw material certificate acceptance program.
- Support technical manager with data analysis of internal defects via the non- conformance report and semi-annual quality report.
- Support technical manager with notification of problem raw material specifications.
- Plant process improvement leader for activities and measurement
- Handles raw material and new product introduction evaluations and SDS’
- Process and product capability, identify and actively support activities to improve key process performance indicators.
- Customer and supplier contact on corrective actions and improvements
- Directs SPC and quality efforts
- Supports marketing and sales in customer product problem solving and projects
- Ensures that quality requirements are established, implemented and maintained in accordance with Programs, regulations as well as other certifying bodies as required.
- Initiates plant internal/external quality audits
- Develops and maintains quality plans and project schedules
- Train hourly workforce as needed for product testing

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Materials/ Ceramics or a related field.
Experience:
Five to seven years experience with monolithic refractories or use of refractory in the industry is a plus.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of such areas as Document Control, Reporting of Quality Status, Internal Audits, Non-conformances (CAPA), Change Management and Risk Assessments. The application of quality tools such as SPC, Control Plans, FMEA’s, Lean Concepts, etc… in an industrial manufacturing setting. Able to think in a process manner understanding the quality interrelationships between individual areas of the business.
Skills & Behaviour:
Computer skills and report writing skills are required. Capable of leading process improvement teams with both salaried/hourly personnel and completing the effort in a timely fashion. Strong leadership, training, analytical and problem-solving skills with an understanding of process improvement. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Problem Solving & Complexity:
The key here is time management of individual responsibilities and the follow up on internal delegated tasks, assignments, production issues, etc… If these are done effectively, then sufficient time will be available for miscellaneous issues and matters.
