Purpose** Reporting to the Open Pit Superintendent, the Operations General Foreperson will lead short and mid-term execution for the operations at the Pamour site. The position is accountable for the safe production compliant with approved mining plans from the Technical Services team. They will ensure that the all operational team members follow safe work methods and procedures in the pursuit of continuous improvement opportunities for the Pamour open pit mining operations. Attention will be made to complete work within budgeted plan levels.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes the IRS through visible interaction, coaching and mentoring of workers in order to address concerns and health and safety improvements
  • Supports and maintain value based Safety Management System that identifies hazards/risks, monitors compliance and ensures corrective actions are completed
  • Lead or participate in incident and accident investigations
  • Guide contractors to ensure they have the trained personnel, equipment, information and motivation to work safely
  • Promotes and adheres to Discovery Porcupine values as well as the Environmental and Sustainability policies
  • Direct supervision of the front line supervisors ensuring good cross shift process are maintained and standards applied consistently amongst all crews
  • Tracking and reporting of key performance indicators, and comparing to targets and scope
  • Integrated with short and medium term planning outputs involving Geotech, Planning and Geology for the Pamour Open Pit mining activities ensuring achievable schedules and targets
  • Ensure work is conducted according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the United Steelworkers union, providing required notifications, participating in problem solving and possibly grievance meetings
  • Builds and maintains collaborative internal relationships (e.g. Management, peers, support departments as well as external stakeholders and agencies) that assure timely response and teamwork

Training and Education

  • 5-10 years’ experience in mining, preferably in an open pit mining environment
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role with exposure to senior supervisory roles and duties
  • Comprehensive knowledge of open pit mining methods, procedures and legislation
  • High learning agility and ability to generate contingency plans
  • Good financial knowledge with experience in budgeting and cost control
  • Collaboration skills with other departments and teams
  • Strong communication skills
