The Opportunity: Manager of Finance

The Role

Providence Village is seeking an experienced Manager of Finance to lead its finance function and oversee all aspects of full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit. This pivotal role supports two distinct business segments: private long-term care and property management, requiring a dynamic leader who can balance operational oversight with long-term financial planning.

Providence Village supports the retirement living and care of the Sisters in residence while partnering with service providers to meet the health and wellness needs of people living in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox, and Addington.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee full-cycle accounting, payroll, budgeting, and financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and CPA standards.
  • Lead the development and execution of multi-year financial plans and capital needs assessments.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with all applicable regulatory and oversight bodies, including government agencies, funders, and charitable sector requirements.
  • Manage budgeting processes and provide strategic insights to support operational efficiency.
  • Support the President & CEO with financial analysis and decision-making tools.
  • Coordinate and oversee external audits, liaising with auditors as needed.
  • Engage professionally with external parties such as auditors, banks, investment advisors, and funders to support financial operations and reporting.
  • Take a leadership role in guiding and collaborating with the Board of Directors’ Finance Committee, ensuring informed decision-making and financial transparency.
  • Provide mentorship and support to the Finance Coordinator, fostering a collaborative and high-performance working relationship.

What You Bring

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred; candidates actively pursuing their designation will be considered.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in increasingly complex accounting roles, including at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven ability to lead audits, manage budgets, and provide strategic financial guidance.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
  • Experience reporting to a volunteer Board of Directors is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the not-for-profit sector, including board governance and charitable reporting.
  • Proficiency in SAGE 300 (or equivalent software) is desired, along with advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience supporting organizational change, business growth, or the implementation of new services.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data and technology confidently to guide planning, support decision-making, and drive continuous improvement.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, in-person position based at Providence Village, 1200 Princess Street, Kingston, Ontario. Providence Village operates a private long-term care facility and retirement residence, as well as developing a community hub of support service agencies.

To ensure the health and safety of our residents, all employees must provide an acceptable criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screen and be fully vaccinated in accordance with the Canadian Immunization Guide.
