Title: Mechanical Designer
Location: Halifax, NS (Hybrid)
Job Type: Full-Time
The Opportunity Are you a Mechanical Designer passionate about building services design? We’re partnering with an established multidisciplinary engineering firm with a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality engineering and design solutions across Canada.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on a range of landmark projects — including hospitals, transit stations, educational facilities, and federal and provincial buildings — and to collaborate with senior engineering staff in an environment that encourages growth, innovation, and hands‑on learning.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and reports for a range of mechanical building services projects
- Design heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fire protection, plumbing, and specialty mechanical systems
- Perform load calculations and equipment sizing, and create equipment schedules tailored to project requirements
- Develop layouts and design mechanical building services, ensuring seamless integration with structural, architectural, and electrical disciplines
- Maintain and adhere to BIM/CAD standards (Revit/CAD) and participate in clash detection, model audits, and overall quality reviews
- Assist with construction administration, site reviews, shop drawing review, site instructions, and preparation of change notices as required
- Coordinate design requirements across disciplines, ensuring continuity and effective project delivery
- Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, contractors, and external project stakeholders
Requirements
- 5 years of experience in mechanical building services design
- Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Building Services (C.E.T. designation or equivalent experience will be considered)
- Strong proficiency in Revit (2017 or later), AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, and Dynamo
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel) and experience with mechanical systems such as HVAC, heating, cooling, fire protection, and plumbing
- Strong understanding of municipal and provincial building codes and standards
- Skilled at working across disciplines — including structural, architectural, and electrical — to coordinate seamless design and delivery
- Strong attention to detail, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
