Recreation Therapist – Stepping Stones Day Hospital
About the role
Job Description Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Recreation Therapist will work within the context of a dynamic client/patient and family recovery model of care, and in accordance with established standards of practice, and the vision and values of the organization. Working in a team based environment promoting a holistic leisure lifestyle by addressing the social, physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive needs of clients/patients. Contracts will include staff, clients, families, and community agencies.
Contribute To Safe, Quality Care By
- Develop, plan, facilitate, schedule, organize and implement various therapeutic recreation programs within outpatient day hospital environments.
- Conduct assessments, developing individual recreation plans, completing patient documentation, skill, instruction, development of program goals and objectives, and evaluating a variety of individual and group recreation programs.
What must you have?
- Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited university.
- Current CPR/First Aid.
- Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).
- 3-5 years’ experience working on an Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit and Mental Health Day Hospital Program.
What else do you bring?
- Experience working as a primary recreation therapist in a Mental Health inpatient or day hospital Program.
- Strong working knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices.
- Demonstrated ability in developing, organizing, implementing leisure/recreation programs and assessing leisure needs/goals.
- Experience in facilitating individual and group interventions.
- Able to discern relevant information to make effective decisions regarding patient care planning.
- Able to access appropriate community supports and work effectively with a culturally diverse and complex clientele.
- Ability to work independently, self-directed, and can effectively facilitate programs.
- Able to work collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and verbal and written communication skills in English, with an ability to deliver information and work effectively with patients, families and colleagues.
- Demonstrated strong decision-making, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and adjust to new or unexpected events.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Proven attendance record.
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
- Ability to analyze research and implement evidence-based practice into Policy and Procedure development and clinical practice.

- Experience in EPIC, HED, BCARE, HPF.
