About the role

Our organization:

The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.

The Enforcement division enforces Alberta securities laws by investigating and prosecuting breaches of those laws to prevent and stop current and future misconduct. The Evidence Management team helps ensure that information and evidence are properly managed throughout the investigation and litigation process.

The opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Enforcement Operations and Analytics, the Evidence Management Analyst will provide expertise in processing, digital analysis, categorizing and disclosure of evidence through the course of criminal and regulatory investigations and litigation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing eDiscovery databases, including document ingestion, early case assessment, quality control and troubleshooting, OCR processing, and metadata enrichment.
  • Managing evidence tracking (digital, paper-based and other physical formats) throughout the case lifecycle.
  • Reviewing and tagging documents for disclosure and privilege.
  • Performing redactions using Open Text eDiscovery software to ensure compliance with privacy and legal standards.
  • Preparing disclosure packages using eDiscovery software and in accordance with governing rules or panel directions
  • Liaising with law firms and others in regard to database and document issues.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to review and enhance procedures, systems and software.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Legal Assistant certificate or diploma, or equivalent education or experience.
  • Two or more years of litigation support or records management experience, preferably in a legal or regulatory environment.
  • Two or more years of experience working with e-discovery software or comparable information management systems.
  • Experience in privilege and relevance review is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving, time-management, task prioritization and communication skills.
  • The ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow precise written and verbal instructions.
  • Certified E-Discovery Specialist (CEDS designation) is an asset.
