Role Description The Trades I – Utilities role is a full-time, on-site position based in Port Coquitlam, BC. This role typically involves assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of water, sewer, and storm utilities, including pipe work, valves, hydrants, and related infrastructure. Day-to-day tasks may include operating hand and basic power tools, performing routine inspections, supporting emergency repairs, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. The role also involves following safety protocols, completing basic paperwork or digital records, collaborating with other crew members, and communicating courteously with the public while working in residential and commercial areas. Qualifications Ability to perform physical work safely, including lifting, digging, and working in confined or outdoor spaces. Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tools and equipment commonly used in utility or construction work. Understanding of safe work practices, including traffic control, workplace safety procedures, and use of personal protective equipment. Reliable teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to follow directions and work effectively in a crew environment. Basic record-keeping or documentation skills for tracking work completed and materials used. Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with a satisfactory driving record; ability to obtain additional certifications such as traffic control or confined space entry is an asset. Previous experience in municipal utilities, construction, or a related trade is an asset; completion of related courses or apprenticeship training is beneficial. Willingness to work in all weather conditions and respond to call-outs or emergency situations as required.
