JOB TITLE: STUDENT SUCESS ADVISOR - CYCLICAL INTERVENTIONS (REPLACEMENT)
Description Reporting to the Learning Commons Coordinator, the Student Success Advisor is responsible for taking a leadership role in the development and administration of student success initiatives across the college including, but not limited to early alert of at-risk students, mid-term assessment, and academic probation. In collaboration with other Tutoring and Academic Success Centre (TASC) professionals, he or she will work to improve student transition experiences, retention and graduation rates, and to reduce the number of students in poor academic standing.
More Specifically, But Not Limited To, The Professional
- Develops, implements, maintains, evaluates and coordinates the college’s Academic Early Alert System;
- Maintains, evaluates and coordinates the mid-term assessment outreach initiative while conceptualizing and proposing more effective alternatives;
- In collaboration with the Faculty Deans and the Dean of Academic Systems, develops, implements, maintains and evaluates the procedures for college-wide academic probation and subsequent follow-up;
- Meets and follows-up with students who have been identified as at risk through one or more interventions;
- Applies continuous ongoing improvement practices while using evidence-based inquiry to assess, modify and create cyclical interventions that aim to increase student success;
- In collaboration with the Registrar’s Office, is responsible for communicating Student Success related information to the Vanier community through various internal mediums;
- Develops relationships with Academic and Student Success Advisors in higher education institutions;
- Collaborates with and supports other Student Success Advisors and the wider Vanier community on various initiatives, such as Orientation, Student Success Week, and Welcome Tea;
- Maintains open communication with faculty to assist with and advise on matters of concern pertaining to students’ academic performance, while respecting current privacy legislation.
The Professional Also Assists With TASC-wide Responsibilities
- Collaborates with teachers in matters pertaining to literacy and other essential skills;
- Works with other TASC professionals in order to assists with workshops, events, and/or activities attached to the Centre’s main dossiers;
- In collaboration with the Learning Commons Administrative Support Agent, updates with content related to Professional’s dossier;
- Contributes to Learning Commons team-wide mandates and special projects;
- Participates in research and data analysis initiatives on the academic achievement of students across disciplines as well as to optimize academic support services for students;
- Carries out administrative duties for the Centre.
Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned. Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (35 hours/week) – with schedule flexibility when necessary
