Position Summary The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all quarry or pit operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production. This role ensures compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards while driving operational excellence, productivity, and continuous improvement. The position requires strong leadership skills to manage unionized and salaried staff, maintain positive labor relations, and achieve production targets aligned with company objectives.
Job Duties
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures, legislation, and company standards; actively manage risks and incidents.
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term quarry/pit, stripping, and rehabilitation plans.
- Prepare and manage annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and CAPEX plans.
- Implement and measure quarry/pit performance indicators to ensure operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Oversee daily scheduling to meet production, environmental, and safety goals.
- Monitor production levels and product specifications to ensure targets are met.
- Control operational costs through effective planning and expenditure monitoring.
- Supervise environmental monitoring and reporting activities.
- Lead and manage Site Supervisors and hourly workforce, including performance management and labor relations.
- Foster positive relationships and maintain open communication with stakeholders; resolve conflicts collaboratively.
Requirements
- Degree in Mining Engineering preferred; equivalent education in Civil or Mechanical Engineering considered
- Minimum 5 years of experience in large open-pit or quarry operations
- Proven experience managing unionized workforce and salaried supervisors
- Strong knowledge of aggregate products and applications
- Proficiency in computer systems; SAP experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with a track record of developing and motivating teams
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple priorities
