SENIOR MANAGER, SPORT SERVICES (CONTRACT)
Headquartered in Montreal and Toronto, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is a national, private, not-for-profit organization committed to high-performance sports excellence. We are the largest private supporter of high-performance sport in Canada and we are responsible for all aspects of Canada’s involvement in the Olympic Movement, including the participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Games, the Senior Manager, Sport Services is responsible for the oversight of the Canadian Olympic, Pan American, Youth Olympic Games Team selection and registration process, including all elements of the development of Team Selection Policies, and planning and execution of Accreditation and Sport Entries processes. The Manager, Sport Services oversees Athlete and Coach Recognition programs, liaising with National Sport Organizations (NSOs) and various functional areas of the COC to ensure athletes and coaches are recognized for their performances using consistent, transparent and equitable selection principles. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the tracking and maintaining records of qualification and results data.
LOCATION
This position will be located in the COC office in Montreal, QC, at 500 René-Lévesque Boulevard West. The COC offers a hybrid work model that allows for up to two (2) remote days per week.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRIORITIES
Liaison
-
Work with other COC sectors that may play a support role with the delivery of Games and Sport Services key activities, as well as the delivery of Athlete and Coach Recognition programs

Be a contributing member of the Games Management Team that focuses on Games Operations and Logistics

Through the sport’s assigned Own The Podium’s High Performance Advisers (HPA), understand the sport’s culture, challenges and opportunities to optimize their Games performance environment and plan specific to accreditation and team nomination Work closely with various OCOG departments to support planning and delivery of COC preparations and operations
Games Readiness and Delivery
The Senior Manager, Sport Services works collaboratively with Games Operations and HPAs to deliver on department objectives, and to advance Games delivery in the following ways:

Draft, develop and update pertinent COT policies / procedures / agreements to support Games objectives

Collaborate with other COC departments (e.g., Marketing Partnerships, System Excellence, etc.) and external partners (e.g., Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) and Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), etc.), to understand and support implementation of their Games-specific programs

Develop internal relationships within the COC departments to garner an understanding of our overall operations, and strategic plan to deliver integrated programs

Develop contacts, build relationships, and liaise with domestic and international partners (such as Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), Organizing committees, other NOCs) to establish mutual efficiencies and compare best practices in relation to Games preparation, planning and execution Support IT infrastructure projects as they relate to the Games Operations (Games Management System “GMS”, Portal, GMS, GMS Tools)
Team Selection and Registration
- Manage the COC’s overall accreditation plan for all Games, ensuring optimal team composition for each sport’s performance readiness at Games, as well as Mission Team required support roles for effective Games delivery
- Oversee the tracking of athlete qualification status
- Manage the review process of NSOs Internal Nomination Procedures (INP) in concert with assigned HPA for all major Games
- Oversee accreditation allocation of Dignitaries and NSO Leadership
- Review and research IOC, International Federation (IF), and Organizing Committee, Olympic Games (OCOG) policies, rules and regulations regarding all aspects of participation at Olympic and Pan Am Games
- Oversee the Canadian Team nomination and long listing process for all Games
- Manage the preparation of selection material for COC Team Selection Committee for all major Games
- Liaise with and support Legal and the COC’s Team Selection Committee to revise Team Selection Policies and approve team nominations and Games agreements
- Ensure accreditation reports are accurate and submitted in accordance with OCOG timelines for all applicable NOC categories of accreditation
- Prepare required materials and attend pre-DRM and DRMs to complete team registration Support the Communications team to ensure accuracy of Team Announcements
Schedule and Results
- Working with Own The Podium, ensure COC has access to timely and accurate identified medal potential athletes’ lists
- Lead ongoing collaboration with the OTP Data Analytics team to support Games planning, performance insights, and funding decisions.
- Oversee the tracking of qualified athletes and qualification details and ensure the timely and accurate submission of Sport Entry details for athlete registration
- Oversee the tracking of qualified athletes and qualification details and ensure the timely and accurate submission of Sport Entry details for athlete registration
- Provide team size estimates for all major Games
- Oversee the COC Games results of Canadians and daily monitoring of Canadian athletes’ schedule Support COC Digital team with the integration of results and Games related information on COC site and CRM
Athlete Coaching and Recognition Programs
- Oversee the Games recognition programs for athletes (AEF), coaches (CEF)
- Support the Canadian Olympic Foundation, COC Marketing Partnerships and Athlete Marketing teams in developing the selection criteria, selecting the athletes, and timelines for various programs including but not limited to Petro Canada FACE, Murphy & Bitove Awards Consult on the nomination and quota recommendations for direct-to-athlete/coach funding programs
Project Management

Manage Sport Services projects in the project management software including implementation and tracking for all deliverables

Attend site visits as necessary to develop key relationships with OCOG accreditation and entries staff Manage Sport Services and AEF/CEF budgets with the Senior Director, Games
Human Resources

Manage the Sport Services Team (3 direct reports)

Recruit, lead and develop a high performing team with clear roles and responsibilities; coach and mentor the team to optimize their performance and personal and professional development

Identify and implement people management practices that contribute to the creation of a team culture that reinforces high levels of collaboration, client service, efficiency, participation, commitment, excellence and team spirit Mission Team preparation, planning, and oversight
Other
Contribute to any Sport-specific projects or working groups where applicable that support the overall vision and mission of the COC.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITICAL SKILLS
Education and Experience

University Degree/College Degree

7-8 years in national or international sport community and proven multi-sport Games experience Minimum of 2 years of people management experience
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the Canadian Sport System, COC overall objectives (including Games department specifics), International Sport System, Olympic Games, Youth Olympic Games and Pan Am Games Accreditation, Sport Entries and Team Registration

COMPENSATION:
The expected salary range for this role is $96,000 to $130,000 per year. The base pay within this range is based on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal pay equity, and market benchmarks.
