About the Role
The Senior Backend Engineer (AWS) is a critical member of Moncel's Technology team, reporting directly to the Head of Technology and working closely with the Product and Technology Systems teams. In this role, you will own backend systems and integrations that power the Moncel One platform, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our cloud-based infrastructure.
You'll design and maintain backend services using AWS technologies, build and optimize serverless architectures, and integrate with a wide range of third-party platforms, including Shopify, Auth0, Salesforce, Amplitude, Klaviyo, and Next.js applications. This is a high-impact role where your work directly supports Moncel's product innovation and growth.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, build, and maintain backend services using AWS technologies, including Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, Step Functions, EventBridge, and API Gateway.
- Architect and manage API integrations with third-party systems such as Shopify, Auth0, Salesforce, Amplitude, Klaviyo, and Moncel's Client Applications built on Next.js.
- Optimize backend systems for scalability, performance, and reliability.
- Manage CI/CD pipelines, testing processes, and deployment workflows.
- Troubleshoot and resolve backend issues across development, staging, and production environments.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers and product managers to deliver seamless platform features.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and participate in product roadmap discussions.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to future backend team members as Moncel scales.
What You Have
- Advanced AWS expertise with Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, Step Functions, EventBridge, API Gateway, and IAM.
- Skilled in backend development using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Strong experience designing, developing, and consuming APIs (REST, GraphQL).
- Proficient in CI/CD pipeline management and DevOps best practices.
- Experience working with distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
- Comfortable integrating with platforms like Shopify, Salesforce, Auth0, Amplitude, and Klaviyo.
- Self-motivated, highly autonomous, and an excellent problem solver.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentorship capabilities.
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience, preferably in AWS-driven production environments.
- Proven experience delivering backend systems at scale in startup or scale-up environments.
- Proficiency in Git workflows and modern development tools.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT) is a plus.
- AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, Developer, or Serverless) are an asset.
