Be the Insight Behind the Numbers – In an Analytical Real Estate Role
About the Opportunity
Imagine a role where your analytical skills help shape decisions that impact a portfolio of over 300 properties across Canada. Our client is one of the country’s most respected commercial REITs, with 65 million square feet of retail and industrial assets. Their focus on necessity-based anchored retail makes them resilient, and their industrial developments are driving thoughtful growth in key markets.
Our client is guided by the values of Care, Ownership, Respect, and Excellence. They have been recognized as one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers three years running. Their culture is inclusive, forward-looking, and committed to helping people grow through continuous learning and development.
The Senior Property Accountant position is designed for someone who wants to step beyond day-to-day property accounting and into a role that is all about analysis, storytelling, and impact. Because all of the transactional accounting is handled offshore, this role allows you to focus on understanding the numbers, interpreting them, and delivering insights that support leadership decisions
Your New Role
Each month, you will receive reporting packages covering roughly three hundred properties in either the retail or industrial portfolio. Your job will be to review the results, identify any issues, and ensure everything is correct. You will analyze rent, expense, and recovery ratios, ensure the accuracy of straight-line rents, and produce variance analysis that explains the changes and their reasons.
Your work will be highly visible. You will share your findings with directors and managers, support the preparation of tax financial statements and Statements of Adjustment, and play a part in building quarterly forecasts and annual budgets. You will work side-by-side with colleagues in Finance, Asset Management, Leasing, and Tax, becoming a trusted partner who helps keep the numbers sharp and the story clear.
Because this team values improvement, you will also have the opportunity to implement efficiencies. Whether it’s refining an Excel model, suggesting a process change, or finding a more efficient way to collaborate with the offshore team, your ideas will be welcomed and put into action.
What Sets You Apart
You are an analytical thinker who loves numbers, modelling, and problem-solving. Excel is your playground, and you know how to get the most out of it: from building robust models to auditing formulas, using pivots and lookups, and making data tell a story. Experience with Power BI or other analytics tools excites you, and you are naturally curious about process automation and data visualization.
You are highly software-savvy, with strong exposure to real estate ERP systems, ideally JD Edwards, but MRI, Yardi, or other large systems translate well. You have three to five years of experience in commercial real estate accounting or reporting, and you thrive in high-volume, fast-paced environments where accuracy and insight are key.
You may have a CPA designation, but it’s not required. This could be the ideal role for someone with a CFA or MBA who wants to leverage their analytical skills and portfolio in commercial real estate. Most importantly, you are collaborative, detail-oriented, and motivated to turn financial data into actionable insight.
Why Join
You will be joining a team that is collaborative, seasoned, and supportive. Recent promotions and significant cross-development demonstrate that growth here is real, not just a talking point. The work model offers the best of both worlds: two days a week in the office (a third if needed for key meetings), flexible start and end times, and predictable busy seasons once the team is fully staf
fed. The total rewards package is designed to attract top talent, offering a competitive salary, a generous bonus plan, four weeks of vacation, day-one benefits with flexible plan options, pension matching after a year, and eligibility for the Employee Unit Purchase Plan from your first day. You will also enjoy a wellness subsidy, discounted fitness memberships, parental and adoption leave top-ups, and full coverage for your CPA dues.
This is more than just a job; it’s an opportunity to contribute to one of Canada’s largest and most respected real estate portfolios while being part of a culture that values inclusion, innovation, and doing the right thing.
