Senior Technology Officer - Business Banking Operations

About the role
The role is responsible for planning, prioritizing, and delivering technology solutions that maximize value while adhering to established governance standards. This position oversees the full lifecycle of solution delivery, ensuring alignment with business objectives, operational stability post-implementation, and delivery within scope, timeline, and budget.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end (E2E) delivery of technology solutions, ensuring stakeholder alignment and proactive identification and resolution of risks and issues. Plan, prioritize, and manage multiple initiatives of varying complexity while maintaining service level agreements (SLAs) and technical stewardship over platform applications. Oversee the development lifecycle to ensure effective delivery of solutions and address operational concerns once deployed to production. Act as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, providing ownership, direction, and support for planning, delivery, and ongoing solution management. Ensure ongoing reliability, performance, and viability of technology platforms and assets. Define and document application architecture and system design to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and technical strategies. Provide strategic input into business decisions, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and stakeholders. Analyze complex business and technical challenges, delivering actionable insights and recommendations. Manage resources effectively and lead the execution of strategic initiatives to achieve business and financial goals. Align technology initiatives with business priorities, determining sequencing and investment strategies. Evaluate external vendors and select cost-effective solutions that meet organizational needs. Communicate complex technical strategies and solutions to senior leadership in a clear and actionable manner. Recommend and implement improvements to systems, processes, and resource allocation to enhance productivity and platform performance. Monitor and track performance metrics, addressing gaps and opportunities as needed. Operate as a subject matter expert, providing guidance across enterprise-level initiatives. Adapt to evolving trends and implement changes to meet emerging business and technology needs.

Qualifications
15+ years of progressive experience in technology leadership roles. Strong experience working within the banking industry, preferably in business banking. Proven ability to drive end-to-end technology solutions and make decisions across a holistic technology stack, including: Java-based applications Data platforms Batch processing systems User interface (UI) components and enhancements Demonstrated capability to operate at a strategic decision-making level across complex technology ecosystems. Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across technology teams, business stakeholders, and external partners. Exposure to and understanding of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its application in business solutions. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, Business, or a related field (Master’s degree is an asset). Deep expertise within the relevant domain, with broad knowledge of business functions, systems, and processes. Strong understanding of software architecture, development practices, methodologies, and technologies. Proficiency in required programming languages, with the ability to code with minimal oversight. Solid understanding of operating systems, development environments, and deployment practices. Strong knowledge of end-to-end application ecosystems and integrations.

Salary:
$94,600.00 - $176,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
