About the role

Why Join Us?

The Royal is a mental illness treatment, teaching and research hospital, focused on patients with complex illness and addiction. We provide treatment while advancing research to bring the most effective new discoveries into practice.

The Royal operates in a highly regulated, publicly funded healthcare environment. We work closely with government, health system partners, and academic institutions. We are guided by our iCARE values: Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.

About the Role:

If you’re a strategic leader energized by operational excellence, complex partnerships, and advancing sustainability, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Join The Royal as our Director of Facilities Operations & Sustainability and lead the teams, systems, and infrastructure that keep our hospital safe, resilient, and future‑ready.

This role oversees a broad portfolio spanning facilities operations, support services, environmental sustainability, and major third‑party partnerships including the public‑private partnership (P3) with the current Facility Management operator in Ottawa. The Director drives long‑term planning, risk management, and service excellence across key programs such as Security, Fire Safety, Building Maintenance, Clinical Equipment, Food Services, Housekeeping, Laundry/Linen, Parking, and Logistics.

Accountable for high‑performing operations across both the Ottawa and Brockville campuses, the Director fosters a culture of safety, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement while leading multidisciplinary teams and strengthening relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers.

With responsibilities in financial stewardship, capital planning, project oversight, governance, and organizational change, the Director plays a critical role in enhancing the experience of patients, staff, and visitors. This includes leadership in transformational initiatives such as the first‑in‑Canada transition from a P3 capital asset hand back. This is an exceptional opportunity for a forward‑thinking, collaborative, and innovative leader to drive impact across a dynamic, mission‑driven organization.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished facilities leader with a strong academic foundation, holding a bachelor’s degree Facilities Management or a related field. A related master’s degree is preferred. You bring more than a decade of progressive leadership experience overseeing multi‑site operations and support services, along with deep knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements, safety standards, and sustainability practices.

The Royal is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. Leaders are expected to uphold principles of anti-racism, health equity, and psychological and physical safety for staff and patients.

Salary Range: $156,351.00 to $181,525.50
