The Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining safety, quality, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives across a state‑of‑the‑art Order Storage and Retrieval System (OSR), automated order‑picking systems, and other building and material‑handling equipment.
This position applies advanced knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated systems, including work with 480VAC, 240VAC, 120VAC, 48VDC, 24VDC, VFDs, and PLCs (Siemens preferred). The Senior Technician operates independently with minimal supervision, resolves complex technical issues, and contributes to the development of procedures, goals, and best practices.
The role works closely with internal partners, external contractors, and suppliers and reports to the Senior Facility Maintenance Manager.
What You’ll Do
Technical & Equipment Responsibilities
- Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, and electrical code specifications to support industrial equipment installation and maintenance.
- Assemble, install, maintain, and repair electrical and electromechanical equipment in accordance with manufacturer and company standards.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning low‑voltage electrical and mechanical systems using manuals, schematics, and electronic test equipment.
- Routinely test electrical and mechanical systems, electronic equipment, and components to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance on electrical, mechanical, and rotating equipment to identify hazards, defects, and required adjustments.
- Maintain complete and accurate maintenance records, test results, and repair documentation within the CMMS.
- Follow established testing, maintenance, and installation procedures for all equipment supported by the maintenance department.
- Develop and recommend improvements, design changes, or modifications to equipment, systems, and procedures to support reliability and efficiency.
- Provide technical support and guidance to employees on the assigned shift.
Operational & Team Support
- Schedule and coordinate maintenance activities with impacted departments to minimize operational disruption.
- Assist with spare parts inventory audits to ensure availability of critical replacement parts.
- Partner with internal teams and external vendors to complete repairs, upgrades, and projects.
- Identify and communicate hazards, unsafe conditions, or equipment defects to the Senior Facility Maintenance Manager.
- Record equipment deterioration and assess potential safety risks associated with continued operation.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard‑free work areas in alignment with safety standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support department and site objectives.
What You’ll Need
Required Experience & Technical Skills
- Industrial Electrician with 3+ years of relevant experience in a similar role within an industrial or automated environment.
- Hands‑on experience with:
- PLCs, VFDs, and SCADA systems
- AS‑i Bus, Profibus, and Ethernet networks
- Barcode scanners, vision systems, light curtains, and photo sensors
- De‑stackers; roller and belt conveyors
- Thermo‑transfer printers and label applicators
- Servo drives; AC and DC motors; gearboxes
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Air compressors, air dryers, generators, and AC power distribution
- Overhead doors, dock plates, and HVAC systems
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and isolate faults in low‑voltage electrical control systems and mechanical equipment.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of PLC‑based machinery and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, operating manuals, and maintenance instructions.
- Practical knowledge of industrial networks and interfaces.
- Proficiency with computers and maintenance‑related software systems.
