About the role

This is to fill a permanent full-time position, working 75 hours biweekly.

Under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent, Administration, this position is responsible for preparing meals, training and supervising corrections and inmate cooks. The Manager is also responsible for the provision of meals at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre, including meals for special occasions, while maintaining a high standard of sanitation and safety in the kitchen. This position is classified as a Peace Officer under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Essential Qualifications:
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note - selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Journeyperson Cook Certification (Red Seal Certification) or equivalent

  • Experience in menu planning

  • Experience in a commercial or institutional food services setting

  • Experience supervising people involved in food preparations

  • Experience in common and special dietary needs including medical and spiritual diets

  • Knowledge and experience preparing traditional Yukon First Nation meals is an asset

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on:

  • Effective conflict management skills

  • Effective supervisory skills

  • Effective interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Solid knowledge of the Canada Food Guide Standard

  • Ability to accurately estimate ingredient and supply requirements, complete orders, receive supplies and record wastage

  • Ability to submit reports, including but not exclusive to inspection checklists, and food order summaries

  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook

Additional Information

Conditions of Employment: Security clearance, Medical clearance, TB Testing, Foodsafe certification, Standard First Aid, CPR Certification, and WHMIS.

Job Requirements: Wearing a uniform, lifting equipment and supplies weighing up to 50lbs, exposure to and working with offenders.
