PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Analyst – Costing Analysis will play a strategic role in driving profitability and sustainable growth through data-driven financial insights. Collaborating with stakeholders across Sales & Marketing, Finance, and Operations, the role involves providing timely analysis to guide revenue opportunities, optimize margins, and support executive decision-making. If you're a proactive problem-solver with expertise in costing analysis, this is your opportunity to make a direct impact on organizational success.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Deliver actionable financial insights focused on cost and profitability to guide corporate decisions on contract renewals, capital investments, and strategic initiatives, while evaluating future revenue opportunities across North America
- Recommend data-driven economic and financial solutions for operational improvements, proactively identifying margin optimization opportunities and collaborating with operations to implement impactful initiatives
- Manage and maintain the forecast and budget of operating metrics, ensuring alignment with corporate goals while delivering valuable insights into operational drivers and efficiencies to support strategic decision-making
- Provide timely and accurate costing information and analysis to Sales and Marketing teams, detailing cost drivers and insight into profitability
- Partner with stakeholders, becoming a dependable financial expert that stakeholders can trust and rely on for strategic financial advice
- Get alignment to cross-functional stakeholders to assess the financial viability of investment projects, understanding our network to drive meaningful revenue opportunities
- Automate processes, enhance workflows, and build complex financial models to simplify data analysis and support data-driven decisions
- Become an expert in managing costing data, continually look for improvements in the financial models and information systems, and work closely with stakeholders to understand and implement changes that will drive business results
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree in Commerce/Finance, Accounting, Economics or other relevant fields
- Strong modelling, qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
- Proven ability to integrate disparate data and information into a common analysis
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity to identify root causes and solve complex problems
- Understand and articulate complex issues, risks, and results to management and stakeholders of different work and educational backgrounds
- Attention to detail and respect for deadlines
- Strong organizational, time management, collaboration, and relationship management skills
- Ability to bridge the gap between analytics and business understanding
- Leadership skills including mentoring, change management, process review and improvement
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient Excel skills and experience working with large volumes of data. SAP experience is an asset
- Experience in developing costs and assessing profitability for products or services, particularly in the rail or transportation industry, is an asset

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
