About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Computer Vision Scientist to join our applied research group in Montreal, QC. In this role, you will prototype, develop, and evaluate machine learning models and algorithms for our industry-leading computer vision technologies that power the Hinge Health program. You will have the opportunity to both work independently on novel research and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including scientists, engineers, SREs, data specialists, clinical experts, and product managers.
You will play a critical role in advancing our best-in-class human pose estimation technology and exploring new computer vision applications inspired by internal product needs and the latest academic research. You will be expected to communicate scientific ideas and insights clearly across various channels and audiences and to rapidly transform research ideas into working prototypes that can be tested and iterated in real-world settings.
What You’ll Accomplish
- Research and develop novel machine learning algorithms to power computer vision technologies, focusing on problems relevant to our member-facing digital health solutions
- Conduct scientific analyses of data, model performance, and technology trends; effectively share insights and best practices across the R&D team
- Contribute to the maintenance and development of shared Science Team tools, technologies, and research codebases, primarily in Python
- Communicate research findings through patents, technical reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts
- Represent the team and the company at scientific conferences and maintain active engagement with the latest developments through the research literature
- Translate emerging AI and computer vision research into new product features, workflow optimizations, or pipeline improvements
Hinge Health Hybrid Model We believe that remote work and in-person work have their own advantages and disadvantages, and we want to be able to leverage the best of both worlds. Employees in hybrid roles are required to be in the office 3 days/week
Basic Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with a focus on computer vision and/or deep learning
- Demonstrated research impact evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, patents, and/or open-source code contributions
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience with modern ML libraries and tools, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, MLFlow, SageMaker/Databricks, and next-generation developer tools (e.g. Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code, Langsmith)
- Excellent technical communication skills, with experience presenting ideas clearly in written, visual, and verbal formats tailored for different technical and non-technical audiences
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, adapting communication and working styles as needed
- Demonstrated experience using AI tooling to accelerate workflows
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing and maintaining research codebases in Python, with familiarity in collaborative code workflows (e.g. GitHub)
- Prior success prototyping and iterating on applied AI/ML solutions that have transitioned into production or product features
- Experience with scientific writing, authoring patents, and presenting at top-tier venues
- Familiarity with deploying computer vision models on cloud platforms or within distributed systems (e.g. AWS, SageMaker)
- Genuine curiosity about new technologies and an aptitude for rapidly learning and applying emerging AI advances
Compensation This position will have an annual salary, plus equity and benefits. Please note the annual salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. The annual salary range for this position is $96,000 - $144,000.
