About Us
The Department of Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central division committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units to supply centrally supported technology solutions and services.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Project Support Group Team Lead, the Project Manager provides professional and technical leadership and is accountable for the effective implementation of the Research Information Management System (RIMS) platform project, a centralized platform designed to showcase Western University’s faculty and researchers’ research, scholarship and creativity. The Project Manager will work collaboratively with Western Libraries senior leadership (Vice-Provost and Chief Librarian and Associate Chief Librarian), Library Information Technology Services (LITS), Western Technology Services (WTS), the RIMS Working Group, and campus partners to ensure the successful implementation of the platform across campus. The role will define and manage the development of project plans, support the design, implementation and evaluation of the project components (including benefits realization plan), and will develop communications, educational resources, project documentation and status reports for stakeholders as required.
Qualifications
Education:
- University Degree, or 3-year Community College Diploma with relevant experience, in a relevant field; University Degree in a technical or business-related field (Computer Science, Software Development, Software Engineering, HBA/MBA, etc.) is preferred
- Project Management Professional certification
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in project management within a complex office environment
- Familiarity with Research Information Management Systems (RIMS) and their implementation best practices would be an asset
- Understanding of the scholarly publishing life cycle and the role of research information management in supporting institutional goals would be an asset
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to align projects with institutional goals and navigate organizational complexity
- Ability to influence without authority to manage diverse stakeholder needs
- Ability to provide clear and adaptive communication in evolving environments to various stakeholders
- Ability to lead through uncertainty and help teams adapt to shifting priorities
- Ability to anticipate and mitigate risk while balancing project outcomes

- Ability to motivate to achieve more effective results
- Ability to provide leadership including establishing priorities, making decisions and distributing work and resources, across multiple cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage complex projects with cross-functional teams to achieve project outcomes on time, within scope and budget
- Skilled in working with a range of stakeholders within an institution and establishing trust across a broad base of relationships
- Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to contribute to creative and innovative solutions
- Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple competing priorities and an ability to adapt quickly to emerging priorities, leveraging their organized and effective personal work environment
- Ability to apply attention to detail to routine tasks and take initiative to ensure that outcomes meet internal and external customer requirements and quality
- Ability to anticipate, identify and investigate defined issues and employ a consultative and collaborative approach to resolving them
- Proficient at Office 365 software including Teams, Outlook, SharePoint
- Knowledge of work breakdown development and task management through MS Project, Jira, Teams Planner, Excel and common tools such as Asana, Smartsheet and Monday.com
- Ability to complete detailed analytics and reports and lead business discussions
- Strong customer service skills to handle inquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
- Ability to work independently on tasks after appropriate training and make day-to-day decisions based on established guidelines
- Ability to identify and document processes within area of responsibility, including areas which need improvement
- Ability to work with vendors and project teams to configure, customize, and troubleshoot third party systems
