About the role
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Treasury Analyst to support the Company's treasury operations, cash management processes, and merchant payment activities across a multi-location retail environment. This role is responsible for cash flow forecasting, bank account reconciliations, merchant settlement analysis, variance reporting, and supporting merchant processor relationships. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure accurate and timely financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Cash Flow Forecasting & Variance Analysis: Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and periodic cash flow forecasts. Monitor daily cash positions and liquidity requirements, including coordinating drawdowns and repayments with banking partners. Assist in optimizing cash movements between bank accounts. Support weekly and monthly treasury reporting. Participate in treasury process improvement initiatives and automation projects. Analyze actual vs forecasted cash flows, identifying discrepancies and providing recommendations for improvement.
Banking Activity Review & Journal Entry Preparation
Review banking transactions related to merchant processor deposits and associated fees. Prepare and post journal entries relating to merchant settlements, deposits, fees, chargebacks, and other treasury-related transactions while ensuring compliance with accounting policies.
Bank Reconciliations
Perform regular bank reconciliations for each period to ensure all transactions are accounted for and discrepancies are promptly addressed.
Merchant Account & Processor Management
Maintain merchant processor portals and account access. Coordinate merchant account setup, maintenance, and store conversions/acquisitions. Manage pin pad orders, installations, and merchant equipment tracking. Investigate discrepancies between expected and actual deposits and work with relevant teams to resolve issues. Monitor merchant clearing accounts and investigate differences between expected POS settlements and actual bank deposits. Act as the primary liaison between the Company and merchant processors. Resolve issues related to deposits, fees, account access, payment devices, and merchant account configurations.
Merchant Fee Analysis & Accruals
Conduct detailed analysis of merchant fees, including rental equipment and transaction costs. Accurately calculate and accrue merchant fees at period-end to ensure correct financial reporting. Support ad hoc treasury and finance initiatives, including reconciliation of cash collected through store POS systems against actual bank deposits.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. 2+ years of experience in treasury, financial analysis, or accounting, with a focus on cash flow management, merchant accounts, and reconciliations. Strong understanding of banking activity and merchant processing systems. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in journal entry preparation and bank reconciliations. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, XLOOKUPs, advanced functions). Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with various teams and external partners.
Good to Have
Experience in Canadian Retail Pharmacy finance or treasury, particularly in a multi-location environment. CPA designation or progress toward CPA completion. Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation considered an asset. Experience with bank reconciliations using Blackline software. Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365. Experience with Power BI or other data visualization and reporting tools is considered an asset. Familiarity with reconciling cash collected vs. cash recorded by store POS systems. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with various teams and third-party vendors.
