Job Summary:
The Critical Care Nurse will provide care for patients as part of a multidisciplinary team within an aero medical transport setting. The Critical Care Nurse will work as part of the Air Medical Crew (AMC) which could be an Advance Care Paramedic (ACP) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), supplemented with the presence of an Online Medical Control (OLMC) Physician to provide high quality care and service, which includes rapid response assessment, intervention, and safe transport of ill or injured patients of all age categories during inter-facility transfer.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Completion of an accredited/recognized diploma or degree program in health care or an equivalent combination of advanced training and experience that provides the necessary theoretical and clinical skills to perform at the level of Registered Nurse
- 2 years’ experience as either an Adult Emergency and / or Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or a combination of the two.
- Current registration in good standing with their home Province/Territory, and the ability to attain and maintain registration with the College of Registered Nurses Manitoba (CRNM) and College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN)
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)certification is an asset
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is an asset
- Current Trauma Course (PHTLS or ITLS) is considered an asset
- Indigenous cultural awareness training is considered an asset
- Proof of current required vaccinations as per company policy
- Air Medical Crew (AMC) Candidates must successfully: - Complete the company provided aeromedical training (CAMATA Level 1) - Provide proof of a Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Scan, Child Abuse Registry and Adult Abuse Registry - Obtain and maintain Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) - Possess and Maintain a Valid Driver’s License - Possess and Maintain a Valid Canadian Passport - Attain a Fit to Fly Form, completed by a recognized physician in Canada as required or directed by the Company
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Provide leadership to rural personnel for patients experiencing complex medical conditions
- Triage medevac requests/providing direction to the referring facility as required
- Responsible for pre-flight and in-flight stabilization of the patient during all aspects of the medevac
- Liaise with Online Medical Control (OLMC) during all phases of the patient transfer
- Works closely with the other members of the crew (pilots), flight followers and other groups also involved in the transfer of patients
- Maintain constant communication with the different groups internally and externally to ensure that medevacs are performed efficiently and effectively
- Within this capacity, the incumbent acts as a representative of Keewatin Air LP and reports directly to the Medical Program Manager
- Documents all aspects of the aero medical transport in a clear and concise manner Maintain patient
- Records and ensure that privacy act is strictly adhered to
- Makes ethical decisions related to consent and confidentiality
Working Conditions:
- Rotational schedule of two weeks on, two weeks off
- Union Environment: This role operates within a unionized workforce represented by United Steelworkers, governed by the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- There is an expectation that the incumbent will be required to perform their duties on board any Keewatin Air or affiliated aircraft operating and providing aeromedical services to our clients (including Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing)
- Ability to lift, load and secure patients, equipment, and baggage
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; contact with staff and the public; employee must be able to adapt to outdoor weather conditions
