Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Indigenous Midwife (Registered Midwife or Aboriginal Midwife practicing under exemption clause of Midwifery Act, 1991) will deliver culturally safe, coordinated and continuous pregnancy and infant care for expectant families. The Indigenous Midwife will also provide outreach and education in communities to support youth and expectant families to make informed choices around reproductive care. The Indigenous Midwife will work collaboratively with Health, Mental Health and Substance Use Health, and Child Welfare services at Dilico Anishinabek Family Care by providing prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care to medium and high complexity cases.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Health Sciences in Midwifery or diploma/certification from a recognized Aboriginal Midwifery program.
  • One year of experience in Midwifery, along with relevant experience working with marginalized populations facing socio-economic barriers.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, provide on-call service on a rotational basis;
  • Must be certified in CPR and Standard First Aid
  • The regulated health care provider must provide evidence of registration with the appropriate regulatory body;
  • He/she must be able to travel regularly, have a valid Ontario Driver's Licence and have access to a personal vehicle;
  • A criminal records search and vulnerable sector search is required upon hiring.

**Hours of Work:**32.5 Weekly
