POSITION SUMMARY: Accountable for the supervision, coordination and performance of the assigned Technical Section as formed within the existing Engineering Groups. Personally, and through a group of designers ensures the completion and accuracy of assigned tasks from the initial design stage to implementation.  Provide technical leadership and oversee product development for advanced control implementations as they proceed through the design process. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Supervises employees of the section to ensure completion of all assigned tasks to New Flyer standards.
  • Balances task assignments between section members to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Completes Engineering design tasks to support production.
  • Coordinates own tasks to ensure deadlines are met. Includes maintaining a task status and recording time spent on each task.
  • Creates engineering designs to meet customer specifications and production requirements for manufacturability.
  • Coordinates trial installations of designs to ensure customer expectations are met and ensure product reliability and verify component fit.
  • Completes engineering drawings and release documentation in accordance with the Engineering procedures.
  • Provides engineering support to Production, Quality Assurance, Customer Service Support, Purchasing and other departments in all facilities as required.
  • Interacts with vendors and customers on design related issues.
  • Checks, and/or approves engineering documents as authorized.
  • Perform annual EPR’s for the direct reports.
  • Act as a direct liaison to the NPD/CI Project Engineers and Engineering Manager to ensure control system design requirements are conveyed and identified while documenting all technical issues for the Controls team.
  • Strategizes, evaluates, develops and executes innovative advanced control system technology and architecture integration under guidance of the Design Manager of Control Systems and Chief Engineer.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Registered Professional Engineer or Electrical Technology w/ min of 4 years’ experience or equivalent.
  • Design related experience of a minimum of 8+ years.
  • Design based knowledge related to advanced control systems and related hardware/software.
  • Strong programming and control architecture experience.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to motivate employees and train new employees.
  • Ability to use MS Office, Word, Excel and advanced programming tools as needed for projects and position.
