About the role

Reporting to the Supervisor, Facility Maintenance, the HVAC Technician is responsible for maintenance and repairs for Town owned facilities ensuring all mechanical and HVAC systems are appropriately functioning, including preventive maintenance and on-demand maintenance to all facility systems. Reviews and prioritizes maintenance work requirements, follows preventative maintenance schedules, and provides recommendations for the maintenance program. Ensures work performed on all assets meets code requirements and equipment is in a good state of repair. Ensures work is performed in accordance with Department goals and objectives, and all legislated Acts, Regulations and Codes.

Job Requirements

  • Post secondary College Diploma as a to Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician, Building Environmental Technology or in a related field, or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Current license in Ontario for Refrigeration; 313A Refrigeration Mechanic License, G2 Gas Fitting License required, G1 Gas Fitting License preferred.

  • Additional relevant industry certifications such as ONM1-Oil Burner Mechanic, HRAC Certificate or equivalent, B Ticket, and experience on ammonia refrigeration systems is considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated broad experience in the operation and maintenance of building environmental systems and services and ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the operation of building mechanical, HVAC, electrical, site services and systems, associated maintenance procedures, pertinent Acts and Regulations.

  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing a range of building HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including locating and repairing refrigeration leaks.

  • Sound knowledge of software applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage time effectively and coordinate work as part of a team.

  • Class “G” driver’s license in good standing.

  • Sound organizational, communication, problem solving, time management recording keeping, and collaboration skills to work effectively with colleagues.

  • Basic First Aid and CPR certification, confined space entry certificate, WHMIS and Health & Safety Training including responsibilities to oversee staff as per the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

  • Knowledge of Ontario Fire Code, Building Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code 2002. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act and other relevant legislation including “Confined space” entry procedures and relevant testing equipment.

  • Available to work a flexible schedule, including ability to respond to after-hours emergencies and special events as required.
