About the role
What you will do:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering Materials Handling Automation and Robotics implementations across Supply Chain Distribution Centres. The role combines people leadership, technical accountability, and project delivery, working closely with Project Managers, Operations, IT, and external integrators to ensure solutions meet capacity, cost, schedule, safety, and quality objectives.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep Distribution Centre experience, structured project execution, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex, multi-project environment.
- Lead, coach, and develop Engineers, Team Leads, and Analysts across automation and engineering disciplines
- Establish and maintain a structured engineering and project delivery methodology aligned to enterprise standards
- Provide technical leadership for Materials Handling Automation and Robotics implementations , including system definition, specification, and integration
- Coordinate automation systems, material handling equipment, and building interfaces across multiple concurrent Distribution Centre projects
- Partner with Project Managers to develop project plans, including scope definition, milestones, resourcing, and dependencies
- Support delivery execution by managing engineering tasks, risks, constraints, and change control
- Assist in preparing project budgets, cost estimates, and tracking performance against plan
- Collaborate with Operations, IT, and business stakeholders to translate functional requirements into robust, scalable automation solutions
- Proactively identify delivery risks and lead mitigation and contingency planning
- Ensure solutions align with safety, maintainability, operational readiness, and long-term asset lifecycle considerations
- Prepare and deliver clear, executive-level updates and technical presentations to senior leadership and stakeholders
- Foster strong cross-functional communication and collaboration across Supply Chain, IT, Facilities, and external partners
What you bring:
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or equivalent experience in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline
- Significant Supply Chain Distribution Centre experience , including exposure to medium to large-scale automated operations
- Demonstrated experience delivering Materials Handling Automation and Robotics solutions (e.g., conveyance, sortation, ASRS, GTP, AGVs/AMRs, pallet handling systems)
- Minimum 5+ years managing engineering teams and/or complex automation projects in a distribution or industrial environment
- PMP designation or equivalent project management accreditation strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of automation system lifecycle from concept through design, build, integration, commissioning, and handover
- Experience working in matrix organizations with multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Proven ability to develop cost‑benefit analyses, business cases, and executive-level presentations
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate technical complexity into clear business outcomes
- High tolerance for ambiguity and change in fast‑paced transformation environments
- Strong organizational, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining delivery quality and team engagement

Broadband Salary Range: 79,000.00 - 131,000.00 CAD Annual
