Are you looking for an excellent opportunity to connect people to nature and help them make memories in our provincial parks? If so, the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport is seeking an innovative and enthusiastic Manager to join our team and help advance public and educational programming for Saskatchewan Provincial Parks.

Thousands of students and visitors participate in educational and public programs within Saskatchewan's provincial parks. There is a wide variety of programming offered both to the general public and to school groups and is overseen by the Visitor Experiences Branch of the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport. This position will report to the Director of Visitor Experiences and Public Programming.

This position is a full-time temporary 12-month term, located in either Regina or Swift Current.

As the Manager, Visitor Experiences and Public Programming, you will:

  • Lead, coordinate and manage the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the public programming strategies for Saskatchewan Provincial Parks that meets future needs, integrates new technologies and is responsive to resources.

  • Proactively identify problems and issues through in-depth and broad research of current and future opinions and trends related to public education and interpretive experiences.

  • Analyze trends and issues, identify and develop options and solutions, and make policy recommendations to meet ministry goals and client needs.

  • Have strong personal leadership traits and ability to maintain cohesive team relationships in person and from a distance.

  • Develop strategies, proposals and appropriate programs with budgets to address ministry and government priorities.

  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders through consultation to reach the Ministry’s programming objectives.

  • Provide oversight to, guide, coach and provide direction and feedback on performance to staff in the Public Programming team of the Visitor Experiences Branch, including seasonal employees.

  • Develop, execute and coordinate strategic marketing plans that use the appropriate traditional and digital channels to attract visitors to programming and events in Saskatchewan Parks.

  • Provide strong organizational and project management skills to manage workflow and shifting priorities.

You will need understanding of:

  • Theories and practices relevant to interpretive, educational and recreational programs.

  • Program, policy and project evaluation techniques.

  • Communications and marketing techniques to determine the best marketing approaches, methods and key messages to attract visitors.

  • Understanding of human resource management practices including staffing, performance management, coaching, training, supervising, and conflict resolution.

  • Project management methods, principles and processes.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and techniques to manage vendor, stakeholder and rights holder relationships.

The knowledge and abilities for this position are typically gained through a related university degree and up to five years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

The successful candidate for this this position will be required:

  • To have a valid class 5 driver's license
  • Evening and weekend work, particularly during the camping season
  • Travel to provincial parks and head office locations across the province
  • Stay overnight while traveling, away from home
