About the Role

The Art for Social Change Project Assistant (ASC Project Assistant) provides support to the Program Lead on two projects at The Institute for Community Prosperity. These projects focus on elevating the work of art for social change in Calgary.

Art for Social Change works to connect, collaborate, and celebrate the power of arts in addressing social challenges and in building thriving communities. We work to build, promote, and nurture the field of art for social change and community-engaged arts in Calgary as a vehicle for social change.
Artist as Changemaker Program (AAC) is an initiative aimed to expand the capacity of artists to facilitate meaningful social change. The program is created for and by artists. Through a Residency, in partnership with local organizations, artists explore the relationship between the artistic process and social innovation as a means to discover unique and creative ways to address complex social challenges.

This is a casual role working up to 10 hours a week. Hours are subject to change based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

Art for Social Change

  • Assist with event planning, coordination, promotion, and attend events.
  • Curate content for the monthly e-newsletter by gathering content from various domains.
  • Support audience growth and engagement across channels by helping plan content, schedule posts, and improve the newsletter.
  • Strengthen community and media relationships by maintaining contact lists, sharing updates, and gathering stories to highlight network impact.
  • Build relationships with ASC practitioners and community members.
  • Manage the Mailchimp contact list; adding new contacts, updating contact information.
  • Answer general inquiries via email, phone/video call, and in person as needed.
  • Attend meetings with volunteer members and take meeting notes.

Artist as Changemaker Program (AAC)

  • Assist with event planning, coordination, promotion, and attend events.

  • Communicate with Residency artists and organizations in regards to program updates.

  • Develop AAC content as needed for social media and other communications channels for promotion and education of the program.

  • Responsible for understanding and explaining what the AAC program is and its purpose.

  • Support visibility for artists and events by coordinating announcements, basic media outreach, and collecting photos and quotes for future use.

  • Answer inquiries promptly via emails, phone/video call, and in person as needed.

  • Be able to problem solve to find solutions for artists and community members.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal (includes hosting and public speaking) communication skills are essential for success in this role.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, event coordination, and problem solving skills required.

  • Proficiency in G-Suite (Gmail, Google Drive, etc.), Mailchimp, Zoom, and Canva.

  • Experience building relationships with various community members towards a shared goal.

  • Ability to be agile to meet project needs as they evolve and willingness to work in uncertainty.

  • Knowledge and experience working in the Arts and Culture sector, post-secondary, or non profit sector will be considered an asset.

  • Knowledge and practice in equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism and reconciliation will be considered an asset.

  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

  • Comfortable with sharing creative thoughts and ideas to enhance project goals.

Salary: $25 per hour
