HOURS PER WEEK: 24

LOCATION: 99 Gerrard St.E.

STATUS: Regular Part Time Support

The incumbent is responsible for supporting and visiting up to 25 students in field placement sites for the programs in the School of Early Childhood Education. In consultation with the Director and Faculty/Field Placement Co-ordinators, the incumbent visits field placement sites; supports and advises students to facilitate the completion of field placement; and liaises regularly with community partners for their cohort of students. The incumbent will represent the School of Early Childhood Education in the community by building and maintaining professional partnerships with Early Years centres/agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visits up to 25 students and their agency supervisors at their field placement on a weekly basis.
  • Problem solves with centre/agency staff and students when necessary.
  • Advises students with respect to performance as required leading to students meeting placement competencies.
  • Troubleshoots as required while students are on placement to aid in assessment and resolution of performance issues.
  • Works as part of a team in the student placement process.
  • Collaborates with other field staff and faculty to ensure positive student and field partner experience during placement.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Two-year Early Childhood Education diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution or the AECEO equivalency.
  • Must be registered with the College of ECE and currently in good standing.
  • Current St. John’s Ambulance or Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • Current Ministry Health and Immunization requirements must be current and include Varicella, Hepatitis B, Influenza, and Covid-19.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the childcare field, including a minimum of one (1) year in the role of field liaison.
  • Knowledge of the Childcare field is required. Knowledge of and registration with CECE (College of Early Childhood Educators).
  • Experience visiting and supporting students on field placement in a variety of early years centres is required.
  • Previous experience as a RECE in overseeing students in their field placement as the assigned agency staff is required.
  • Familiarity with curriculum and development in Early Childhood Education.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database systems are desirable.
  • Knowledge of College structure, policies and procedures is desirable.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills are essential. The ability to write for both print and electronic media is required. The ability to speak to groups and to facilitate information sessions is critical.
  • Presentation skills are required to successfully promote the College and its students, to community agencies and organizations.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work both independently and as a team member, with minimum supervision.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills are required to facilitate frequent contact with students and community partners. The incumbent must have an excellent customer service orientation.
  • Able to travel between campuses and offsite to field placement sites on a frequent basis.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.

Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.

  • The College requires proof of degrees, credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post-secondary institutions and/or their international equivalents. Credentials may require validation at the time of interviews or offer.
