About the role
We are currently seeking a dedicated and flexible On-Call Chef to support our centres across Nova Scotia. Reporting to the Centre Director, the On-Call Chef plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of kitchen activities by preparing nutritious meals in accordance with Kids & Company standards. This position provides coverage during staff absences, busy periods, or as operational needs arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for all the cooking, baking and food preparation in accordance with the Kids & Company menu and nutritional guidelines.
- Safely store food and dispose of waste following food safety regulations; maintain daily temperature logs for food, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Accommodate special dietary requirements, including allergies, vegetarian meals, and other medical or cultural needs.
- Ensure to follow allergen information.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen areas, including dishes, appliances, countertops, cupboards, and drawers.
- Follow all applicable food handling and health & safety legislation.
- Occasionally prepare meals for field trips, school-age programs, and community events.
- Travel tomultiple locationsacross Nova Scotia as needed to provide kitchen support and adapt to the unique needs of each centre.
Qualifications
- Current Food Handler Certification.
- 2–4 years of experience as a Kitchen Lead, Sous Chef, or equivalent.
- Experience in a daycare or childcare environment is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driver’s abstract.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must pass a criminal record check.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 45 pounds.
- Flexibility and availability to travel and work on short notice across up to 7 locations in Nova Scotia.
