What does this role look like?
Purpose
The Manager, HR Systems will be responsible for the planning and execution of all HR technology services and projects in collaboration with the HR Leadership team. Reporting to the Director, Operations and Integrated Solutions, the Manager, HR Systems will support cross-functional HR initiatives and provide process improvement and/or technology solutions to drive efficiencies aligned with the strategic plan. This position is the key point of contact for all HR technology and related services with our outsourced Human Resource (HR) service provider and internal Calgary Board of Education (CBE) clients
What will you do?
Major responsibilities
- In collaboration with the HR leadership team, drives in the standardization and improvement of core HR processes to simplify and enhance overall HR service delivery
- Provides leadership and oversight of technical aspects of systems and service delivery provided by outsourced HR service provider
- Acts as the principal point of contact with service provider
- Understands clearly where control lies with any issue or decision and work with the service provider with a view of the ongoing betterment of the relationship and the achievement of the primary objectives of the service agreement
- Resolves issues through a defined and managed process of cooperative negotiation
- Leads the continuous review of current HR technology functionality to ensure the CBE is leveraging the maximum possible value and providing users with quick and easy access to relevant information in the most effective and efficient way
- Manages the effective planning and execution of continuous improvement, HR transformation and HR technology projects and service initiatives
- Reviews all HR change requests, projects, processes and technology support requests; ensures they are prioritized and executed aligned with HR strategic priorities
- Responsible for the effective configuration, deployment and maintenance of HR technology, including security, consistent with industry best practice and organizational policy
- Manages document and change control processes and identifies areas of improvement
- Maintains knowledge and expertise in project management disciplines as well as multiple business processes and technical systems
- Leverages industry best practices to plan, manage, monitor and report on all system and services change requests and projects
- Ensures the effective utilization, deployment and development of people resources
- Coaches, trains and develops up to eight employees to assure growth and development of those individuals
- Conducts Annual Performance Plans with direct reports, and ensures alignment to HR Strategic Plan
- Performs other related responsibilities as assigned to meet goals and objectives
What are we looking for?
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- University degree in a business or technology related discipline
- 6 – 8 years of progressive experience, including management of staff, hands on experience with HR enterprise applications, project management, and process improvement initiatives
- HR systems experience, including supporting implementation of modules or module re-implementations; PeopleSoft experience highly desired
- Progressive experience supporting or leading continuous improvement initiatives preferably in an HR environment utilizing lean or TQM approaches
- ITIL and PMP certification desired
- An equivalent combination of directly related post-secondary education and directly related experience may be considered
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
- Results driven, while being aware of and responsive to client needs and requests
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills are essential
- Proven ability to understand complex situations, tasks or problems, analyze them using a systematic approach and identify patterns and connections between situations that are not inherently obvious
- Proven ability to adapt and work effectively within a variety of situations including changes in job demands; changing priorities or competing priorities
- Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders ensuring stakeholder adoption
- Knowledge of and experience with continuous improvement methodologies
- Requires high attention to detail and must handle distractions, changing priorities and interruptions, while meeting required deadlines.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Project, MS Visio, SharePoint, and MS Office applications
