Job Overview

The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time Trades II – Mechanic (from approx. December 1, 2025 – December 4, 2026) to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Equipment and Fleet Department. Reporting to the Manager, Equipment and Fleet, in this unionized position you will perform skilled mechanical work at the journeyman level in the overhaul, maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles, light and heavy-duty equipment and machinery, small equipment and various other specialized types of equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical overhaul, repair, servicing, and maintenance tasks on a wide variety of automotive and heavy-duty construction, maintenance and firefighting equipment and vehicles
  • Operate various types of testing equipment used in diagnosis and repair of engines, onboard computer downloading, emission control systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, wheel alignment and braking systems (both air and hydraulic)
  • Operate vehicles and equipment into position for repair and overhauls as required
  • Supervise one or more members of a small group engaged in semi-skilled mechanical tasks as required
  • Perform related work as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 and a recognized apprenticeship in the trade, preferably BC CVIP Certification with Air Brake Endorsement, and experience at the journeyman level in the overhaul, repair, maintenance and servicing of machinery, equipment, vehicles and related equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the automotive and heavy-duty mechanical trade
  • Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks including, overhaul, repair, maintenance, and adjustment of a variety of automotive, heavy duty and other related equipment
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions, work from diagrams/sketches and work with minimal supervision
  • BC Class 3 Driver’s License (full-privilege) with Air Brake Endorsement considered an asset

Required Certifications/Licenses

Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application.

  • BC Class 5 Driver’s License (full privilege). You must include with your application a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5 year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date. To obtain a copy of your Personal Driving Record, please contact ICBC directly. Please note that a copy of your Driver’s License and the Driver Factor Report will not be accepted.
  • BC Certificate of Qualification - Heavy Duty, Commercial Transport and/or Automotive Repair
  • BC CVIP Certification
