Edmonton Catholic Schools is seeking Two Speech Language Pathologists to join their K – grade 12 team. The Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) provides inclusive and culturally responsive speech and language consultative support and direct services to students with diverse needs using strategies aligned with the Pyramid of Intervention. The SLPs address communication and language-literacy needs impacting school participation and performance, integrate functional strategies into the student’s educational program, and collaborate with school teams, multi-disciplinary team members, and families to build capabilities. Their expertise is critical for identifying, diagnosing, and treating communication delays and disorders.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide consultative and direct services and supports to schools and families for preschool aged children who have identified moderate to severe delays in speech-language development
- Administer, score, and interpret speech-language assessments to support applications for Program Unit Funding
- Contribute to the development of Individual Program Plans (IPP) and recommend appropriate communication strategies and programming for students
- Implement lessons and activities to address individual student goals
- Provide training, coaching and mentoring to speech-language assistants in the implementation of targeted and specialized strategies
- Liaise closely with the teachers, Educational Assistants, Therapeutic Assistants, and other members of the school team including multidisciplinary team members
- Support the generalization of intervention strategies to all natural environments, including the classroom, home and new environments
- Participate in development and delivery of professional development for Division staff in the areas of specific communication disorders, expressive language, receptive language, literacy, social communication, speech sound production, assistive technology, and alternative/augmentative communication
Qualifications and Competencies
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Three or more years related experience in early learning classrooms is desired
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and consultative skills
- Registered with or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA)
- Knowledge of the selection and design of alternative and augmentative communication systems
