About the role

OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate, Sustainability Reporting to join our dynamic team. You will play a crucial role in shaping our responsible investment strategy with a focus on Fengate’s ESG data management and sustainability reporting programs. The Associate will support ESG data collection, review, and quality assurance processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Responsibilities will include supporting the responsible investment team in preparing sustainability reports and submissions to GRESB, SFDR, PRI, and U.S. and Canadian regulatory and investor reporting requirements. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams in infrastructure, real estate and private equity, to drive ESG data management efforts and communicate our progress to stakeholders. This role will be based out of Toronto with occasional travel to our Oakville office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • ESG data management: Support ESG data collection, review, and quality assurance processes to ensure accurate and reliable reporting, with focus on carbon accounting and quantification of embodied and operating emissions under GHG Protocol and PCAF methodologies. Develop insights to reduce carbon footprint and enhance sustainability outcomes in construction, operations, and maintenance of real assets.

  • Real estate reporting: Assist Real Estate team in preparing and submitting reports for the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB), Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking (EWRB), and support other non-financial reporting initiatives such as BOMA and LEED.

  • Reporting and disclosure: Contribute to the creation and distribution of sustainability reports in accordance with relevant U.S. and Canadian regulations and standards (e.g., SFDR, ISSB, SASB). Assist in the preparation and submission of Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) reports, highlighting Fengate's dedication to responsible investment principles and sustainability initiatives.

  • Labour data tracking: Support and enhance the tracking and reporting of labour hours and labour impact to ensure compliance with sustainability and investor reporting standards.

  • Investor reporting: Collaborate with relevant teams to support investor reporting and due diligence questionnaire requirements, ensuring transparency and accountability.

  • Regulatory compliance: Stay up-to-date with evolving US and Canadian ESG regulations and reporting requirements, ensuring Fengate has the measures in place to remain compliant.

Requirements

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study (environmental science, real estate, finance, accounting, sustainable finance, engineering).

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in finance, environmental science, sustainability consulting, residential real estate sustainability, or related roles.

  • CPA designation is an asset.

  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks, GHG reporting standards, and reporting guidelines.

  • Excellent analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret complex environmental and financial data.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills to convey information to diverse audiences.

  • Professional certifications in ESG (e.g., CFA ESG Certificate, SASB FSA, GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards) is preferred. Ongoing commitment to professional development in sustainability/ESG is expected.
