Student Wellness Hub
The Student Wellness Hub provides a range of health services to McGill students with a focus on awareness, prevention, and early intervention. The Student Wellness Hub has a variety of clinicians that provide one-on-one appointments, therapy groups and other services. Within the Student Wellness Hub, the Healthy Living Annex focuses on health promotion and offers peer support programs for both the Macdonald and downtown campuses.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Associate Director Health Promotion & Outreach and working in the Healthy Living Annex and collaboratively within the Student Wellness Hub, is responsible for event organization and administration, for student caregiver initiatives and communication activities related to health promotion initiatives. Uses social media platforms to promote programs and topics related to mental health and overall wellbeing.
Primary Responsibilities:
Events Planning
- Organize and administer a variety of events for students, utilizing diverse engagement methods such as tabling, campus events, and social media.Ensure that logistical details are planned and tracked; troubleshoots with event staff during the event.
- Collaborate with campus partners to design and implement impactful health promotion activities that align with student needs and institutional goals.
- Contribute to initiatives including special programs, annual reports, equity-focused activities, and community engagement efforts.
Student Caregiver Support
- Liaise with student care givers, notes needs expressed.Research specific topics and offers events and workshops based on the expressed needs.Works closely with professionals within the Hub to deliver evidence-based, holistic mental health and wellness initiatives specifically designed to support student caregivers.Responsible for arranging for speakers for events, organizing gift giveaways, administering a clothing swap event, etc.
- Partner with relevant campus stakeholders to enhance resources and services available to student caregivers.Prepares and maintains a list of resources outside of McGill; connects with other McGill resources, i.e., Joint Board Senate Committee on Equity (JBSCE) Subcommittee on Family Care.
Communications
- Consult and collaborate with Student Wellness Hub stakeholders to write publications, and promotional materials to increase visibility and awareness of the Wellness Hub’s services. Responsible for event and outreach promotion.
- Administer the Student Wellness Hub’s social media presence, including content creation.Use a variety of platforms (e.g., infographics, videos, Instagram Reels, and health promotion messaging). Review and approve/finalize social media content created by casual staff.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Excellent knowledge of health promotion theory and positive psychology.
- Student-focused and service-oriented with a demonstrated ability to build constructive and effective relationships with all levels of staff, students and the public.
- Proven precision, attention to detail and initiative.
- Self-motivated, self-directed and approachable.
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a team in a dynamic and deadline-oriented environment.
- Proven ability to deal with confidential and/or sensitive situations with discretion, tact and diplomacy.
- Problem solving and organizational skills with a proven ability to administer multiple activities and projects.
- Proven presentation and facilitation skills.
- Skills in a PC environment using Microsoft Office Suite, Instagram, Canva
- Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day- to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 (fluent) on a scale of 0-4.
