Job description
Based in Mackenzie County Alberta, Canada or East Central, Saskatchewan, you will be responsible for conducting organic inspections. You will primarily visit producers, processors, and companies in the agri-food sector to verify the compliance of their practices with the applicable standards and certification schemes.
- Learn and understand the appropriate organic certification standards.
- Plan and conduct on-site inspections in accordance with Ecocert procedures and applicable certification standards
- Review and analyze documents and records provided by clients (e.g., production records, purchase and sales records, input lists, plans, etc.)
- Verify on-site practices and conditions (inspection of facilities, fields, equipment, storage, inventory, etc.)
- Identify and document any non-conformities and provide clear observations in line with impartiality and objectivity requirements
- Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive inspection reports within required timelines
- Maintain professional and respectful communication with clients before, during, and after inspections Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing field feedback and best practices with the team
Profile
Significant experience in inspection, auditing, quality control, or certification, ideally in the agri-food sector
Relevant post-secondary education (agronomy, food science, environmental science, biology, or a related field)
Strong analytical skills, rigor, attention to detail, and organizational abilities
High level of autonomy and sense of responsibility, with proven ability to manage a workload across a wide geographic area
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders (producers, managers, quality managers, etc.) with tact and professionalism
Comfortable with digital tools (email, Office suite, internal databases) and writing detailed professional reports
Working Conditions
Home-based position located in or near La Crete, Alberta, or Yorkton, Saskatchewan
Frequent travel within Northern Alberta and Eastern Saskatchewan, overnight stays required depending on scheduling
Full-time seasonal position (Mid-May to Mid-September)
Salary: to be discussed
