About the role

Your Opportunity: Adhering to CSA Group Standards and Alberta Health Guidelines, the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRT) performs technical duties under general supervision to support the safe and effective reprocessing of medical devices and surgical instrumentation. Key Responsibilities: Transport contaminated medical devices safely and efficiently. Perform disassembly, decontamination, inspection, assembly, functional testing, high-level disinfection, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reprocessed equipment. Apply aseptic techniques and follow Universal Precautions to prevent Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs). Ensure all instrumentation and equipment are in proper working order. Conduct biological, chemical, and quality assurance testing as part of routine operations. Promptly report equipment issues or process deviations to the supervisor or designate. This is a fast-paced, physically demanding environment requiring prolonged standing, repetitive motion, and handling of heavy trays and equipment. Exposure to chemicals, biological materials, and high-temperature sterilization equipment. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory. Shift work is required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work is performed in a controlled, sterile environment with strict adherence to infection control protocols. Description: Description: The Surgical Processor is responsible for the decontamination, reprocessing, and distribution of a variety of sterile and non-sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 41 Collective Agreement.

    Required Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Successful completion of a Medical Device Reprocessing Program (including successful completion of practicum placement) required A Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Medical Device Reprocessing Certification required

    Additional Required Qualifications: Completion of a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician certificate program from a recognized institution. Current certification with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices. Familiarity with sterilization methods, reprocessing equipment, and quality assurance protocols. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. Effective communication and problem-solving skills.

    Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience working within an MDRD as well as previous experience with Sterile Processing Microsystem (SPM) Instrument Tracking.
