About the role

The VP, Ottawa Region and Public Sector Strategy, plays a pivotal leadership role within the leadership team and is responsible for growth, operational and strategic alignment within their area of focus. The VP contributes to the strategy, actively monitors and executes growth initiatives within their area of focus, and plans for the execution of their strategy.
The VP liaisons between their area of focus and their regional leadership team, ensuring that their specific area and its opportunities are effectively integrated into regional and segment strategic plans. With a strategic mindset, operational insight, and financial review, the VP, Ottawa Region & Public Sector Strategy pursues their business objectives, working closely with key stakeholders to optimize performance within their area of oversight.

The Vice President, Ottawa Practice will:

Financial Oversight

  • Monitor financial performance within the assigned area, providing contributions to regional leaders with regards to P&L (Profit and Loss).
  • Contribute to the setting, management, and monitoring of annual budgets related to area of focus with alignment to key business objectives.
  • Review monthly financial performance focused on growth, identifying new trends and investigating variances as needed.
  • Discuss key financial findings, insights, and recommendations to regional leadership to support informed decision-making.
  • Manage commercial performance in the region, establishing metrics, tracking results, and implementing actions to achieve targets.

Strategic & Commercial Planning

  • Awareness and research of the competitive landscape and its key industry players, evaluating their strengths, weaknesses, and positioning within the region and in the public sector.
  • Contribute to the annual commercial and operational plan for achieving objectives for growth within the region. Help develop and refine go-to-market strategies tailored to local client profiles, regulatory environments, and emerging trends.
  • Help establish clear commercial objectives with measurable targets for growth and new business acquisition. Work with sales talent and others to execute the strategy.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for commercial initiatives within area of focus, regularly analyzing impact and adjusting tactics to ensure objectives are being met.
  • May act as a relationship sponsor for key client accounts within the area of practice.
  • Regularly review and provide updates to the leadership to consider strategic and new commercial opportunities to remain agile and responsive to evolving market dynamics.
  • Build a commercial strategy to enable People Corporation to increase their ability to compete in the Public Sector group space across the country. Strategy would set forth the requirements, steps to achievement and a plan to create a robust public sector acquisition strategy across the Enterprise.
  • Liaison on occasion with Indigenous Practice Leader to provide insight, best practices and consideration of growth opportunities in that space.

Leadership & Culture Building

  • Hire, build and lead a team of advisors and staff in the region to grow the group benefits, retirement and wealth practice within the region.
  • Empower teams to take the initiative, encourage innovation, and meet individual goals and objectives. Works with new partners and firms in the region to integrate within the practice.
  • Encourage open dialogue and continuous feedback to create an environment where learning and achievement are celebrated.
  • Leading by influence to build community, help execute strategy within the area of focus.
  • Implement and execute on sales management best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high achievement.
  • Set clear goals and motivate team to achieve strong results. Coach, support and mentor team to help them grow.
  • Guide new partners and teams through change and help them adapt quickly within area of focus.

To be successful as a Vice President, Ottawa Practice with People Corporation, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of progressive leadership experience in commercial or operational roles, including direct oversight of talent.
  • Related industry accreditation and LLQP are assets.
  • Financial understanding, aptitude, or previous direct involvement in management, including review of budgets, evaluation of results, forecasting, delivering financial targets and reporting financial results to regional leadership.
  • Prior involvement in planning, executing, and monitoring goals to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Firsthand experience with business development, including performance to meet results and a deep understanding of the sales cycle.
  • Desire to lead talent, including hiring, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Experience in brokerage, insurance, risk, group benefits, and related industry are considered a strong asset.
  • The ability to travel periodically is a requirement.
