Position: Full-Time & Casual Opportunities Closing Date: Open Until Filled Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation is seeking caring, energetic, and dedicated Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) to join the team at the Paqtnkek Daycare & Preschool. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting children’s learning and development in a safe, inclusive, and culturally enriching environment.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Daycare Director/Preschool Director, the Early Childhood Educator is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate programming that promotes children’s physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and cultural growth. The successful candidate will help foster a nurturing environment that reflects Mi’kmaw values, language, and traditions while ensuring compliance with provincial childcare regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and implement age-appropriate learning activities. Provide a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for children. Support children’s emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development. Maintain positive relationships with children, families, co-workers, and community members. Observe, document, and communicate children’s progress. Maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment. Ensure all licensing standards, health regulations, and safety procedures are followed. Participate in team meetings, professional development, and cultural programming. Promote Mi’kmaw culture, language, and traditions within daily programming whenever possible.

Qualifications

Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized institution preferred.

Experience in a Pre-School/Daycare setting

Current Nova Scotia ECE Classification (Level 1, 2, or 3 or enrolled in ECE Program). Valid First Aid & CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain). Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check. Child Abuse Registry Check. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Knowledge of Mi’kmaw culture and language is considered a strong asset.
