SALARY RANGE: 1 ST STEP: $81,790.80 per annum
2 ND STEP: $86,122.40 per annum
JOB RATE: $90,617.80 per annum

Area Of Responsibility Reporting to the Principal Planner/Supervisor, this position is responsible for the review of and to provide comments on pre-application consultations, development applications, and site plans applications. Assist in maintaining data on and on updating the Official Plan and Secondary Plans. Promptly respond to general planning inquiries at the Department’s front counter and through phone/email. Provide guidance to technical service and administration staff on assigned planning projects. Prepare research and compile information on policy projects and assist senior staff in policy-led projects and planning studies. Provides land use policy planning comments and technical support for development applications. Provides a supporting role in the formation, preparation and maintenance of the City ‘s land use policy framework
- Reviews and provides comments on pre-application consultations, development applications and site plan applications
- Maintain tracking and record management of files including updating plans based on approved amendments
- Reviews documents to ensure accurate and up-to-date, including Official and Secondary Plans
- Attends meetings, open houses and public consultation events engaging with stakeholders on planning issues and initiatives and provide comments on planning matters
- Prepares packages for distribution including writing information notices, arranging for mailing labels, coordinating with GIS for maps and obtaining approvals for Corporate Communications
- Updates the internal and external websites for policy planning
- Provides front counter service, phone and email to respond to queries and redirect as necessary
- Supports senior planning staff with meeting and open house logistics, research, analysis, and report/presentation preparation
- Conducts field visits to collect data including photos
- Provides support and assists in the preparation heritage plaques and other matters
- Conducts benchmark research, benchmarking exercises and data compilation in support of policy direction, plans and policies and preparation of reports
Selection Criteria EDUCATION:
- Minimum: completion of a university degree in planning
Experience
- Minimum of one year of experience in a planning function
Required REQUIRED LICENCE CERTIFICATION:
- Ontario G class driver’s license
Other Skills And Assets
- Knowledge of growth management, housing, economic development, urban design, environmental development planning process, engineering and transportation
- Knowledge of recognized practices and standards for planning
- Knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal land use and related by law and legislation
- Knowledge of job-related office productivity software, applications and databases and technology devices
- Various tests and/or exams may be administered as part of the selection criteria.
