About the role
D-Wave is seeking a Senior Machine Learning (ML) Algorithms Researcher to join our Quantum Algorithms and Systems team. In this role, you will contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of machine learning, generative AI, and quantum computing. Your primary focus will be on developing novel generative models for scientific, medical, and industrial applications. You will also help identify and design AI algorithms that can benefit most from quantum processing, shaping the future integration of QPU capabilities into advanced ML workflows.
What you'll do
- Research and develop generative models, especially transformer and diffusion models hybridized with quantum annealing processors
- Design and implement conditioning techniques for QPUs, enabling efficient sampling
- Develop AI models using coherent annealing and coherent reverse annealing
- Collaborate closely with internal and external ML customers and research partners to align R&D efforts with real-world needs
- Support and contribute to various ongoing research projects across the team
About You
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 4+ years of experience in machine learning research or applied ML roles
- Strong background in generative models, particularly diffusion models
- Preferred knowledge of quantum annealing and/or gate model quantum computing
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and communicate complex ideas effectively
- Proven ability to interpret and implement complex algorithms from scientific literature
- Skilled in conducting independent research and algorithm development
- Skilled in exploratory data analysis
- Proficient in technical and scientific writing, with experience communicating results to diverse audiences
- Proficiency in Python; experience with C++ is an asset
- Strong foundation in algorithm development with experience in machine learning, Monte Carlo methods, and/or statistical physics

The base salary for this role is targeted between $109,440 - $164,160 CAD per year. The final offer is determined by your proficiencies within this level.
