About the role

Looking for a career where you are challenged to think, continually learn, and collaborate with others? Applied Biological Materials Inc. is a Vancouver-based biotech company that develops and markets research reagents to the life science community and the biotech industry. In light of our rapid business expansion, abm is currently looking for an individual with excellent communication skills, critical thinking ability, and a strong interest in virology to join our Virology team as Lab & Production Assistant!

The Role:

Working with the team leader, you will maintain inventory and manage order tracking. You will forecast and plan requirements with the team leader to ensure that inventory for internal use is in place to meet project demands, and communicate effectively with managers, supervisors, and other departments. You are a competent and motivated team player with demonstrated ability to provide effective quality assurance with lab techniques in the department. On the R&D side, you will have the opportunity to help develop new technologies and techniques for new product lines and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee inventory organization while maintaining adequate stock levels to ensure uninterrupted workflow

  • Handle production duties such as viral transfection, purification, and amplification

  • Conduct quality control tests involving qPCR and mammalian cell culture

  • Assist in developing new technologies and techniques to expand and enhance product lines and services for virus-related products

  • Prepare products for shipment and compile all required documentation

  • Take part in general lab maintenance to ensure a safe, clean and well-equipped working environment for the team including routine handling of glassware using autoclave

  • This is a fast-paced, production-focused role that may require occasional schedule flexibility, including occasional weekend work to meet critical project and production timelines. Candidates should be prepared to:

  • Adapt to changing priorities in response to production demands.

  • Be available for scheduled weekend shifts or extended hours during peak periods.

  • Collaborate with team members across shifts to ensure smooth continuity of lab operations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum: High school diploma with 2 years related working experience; Associate Degree or post-secondary diploma in Virology, Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field; or Bachelor's (BSc) with relevant coursework; or equivalent combination of education and at least 2 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Technical Proficiency: Solid foundation in virology and molecular biology techniques is essential; hands-on experience with cell culture, molecular cloning, RT-qPCR, and virus production is a strong advantage.

  • Analytical and Detail-Oriented: Exceptional organizational skills with keen attention to detail in experimental procedures, data analysis, and documentation to ensure high-quality outputs.

  • Project and Time Management: Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present data and insights clearly to colleagues and stakeholders.

  • Resilient and Growth-Oriented: Open to constructive feedback with the ability to adapt and grow from it, demonstrating commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Self-Directed and Collaborative: Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, while also contributing proactively within a dynamic team setting to achieve collective goals.

  • Thrives Under Pressure: Proven capacity to excel and deliver results in a high-energy, fast-paced industry setting.
