About the role

Location: O’Chiese Business & Investment Centre (on-site, full-time) Rocky Mountain House, AB T4T 1B6

Willing to Travel to offices in Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer and Edmonton

Reports to: Corporate Controller

The O’Chiese Business & Investment Centre (OBIC) is home to a diverse portfolio of Nation-owned businesses – including contracting services, IT and technology support, administration and office services, and retail/fuel operations. We are looking for a motivated Accountant to join our growing Finance team and play a key role in strengthening financial operations across our businesses.

About the Role

As an Accountant at OBIC, you will be a hands-on contributor in managing the day-to-day accounting activities that keep our businesses running smoothly. This includes full-cycle accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance. You’ll ensure the integrity of financial data, support timely and accurate financial reporting, and provide valuable information that helps our business leaders make informed decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain full-cycle accounting for assigned OBIC entities.

  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end schedules.

  • Process invoices, payments, and employee expenses accurately and efficiently.

  • Track accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances.

  • Assist with financial reporting, variance analysis, and management reports.

  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes.

  • Prepare audit schedules and ensure compliance with CRA and internal policies.

  • Maintain accurate data in financial systems (Sage, QuickBooks).

  • Support process improvements and system upgrades.

  • Collaborate with business unit managers, HR, and other internal teams.

What Success Looks Like

  • Financial transactions and reconciliations are accurate, timely, and well-documented.

  • Month-end close runs smoothly and reliably.

  • Audit and compliance requirements are consistently met.

  • Business leaders receive clear, relevant, and actionable financial insights.

  • Strong working relationships are built across all OBIC businesses.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Accounting diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA designation is an asset.
  • 2–4 years of accounting experience, ideally in a multi-entity, project-based, or Indigenous business environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in full-cycle accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with audits, CRA compliance, and exposure to retail or project-based operations is an asset.
  • Proficient in Excel and accounting systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks).
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to explain financial concepts to non-financial colleagues.
  • Respectful of Indigenous culture, governance, and community business practices

Why Join OBIC?

This is a great opportunity to gain broad exposure to multi-entity accounting while contributing to the growth and success of Indigenous-owned enterprises. You’ll be part of a supportive Finance team committed to collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.

As OBIC continues to expand and modernize, this role offers real potential to grow — whether your goals are to deepen your accounting expertise or advance toward controller-level responsibilities.
