Role Overview The successful incumbent will provide care in accordance with the Professional Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario. As a member of the interprofessional team, the successful candidate has a significant role in promoting health, preventing illness, and helping clients to meet overall health related needs. In accordance with the College of Nurses 3 factor model, the RPN will practice autonomously with patients who are less complex, more predictable with lower risk for negative outcome(s). The RPN works in consultation and collaboration with RNs and other members of the interprofessional team to meet the care needs of the more complex less predictable patients at a higher risk for negative outcomes.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Practical Nursing Diploma
- Current Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required
- Current Coronary Care Course 1 or completion within 6 months
- Completion of Medication Administration course or equivalent
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning
- Acute Medical/ Surgical clinical practice competencies; Knowledge of rehabilitation principles of care preferred
- Demonstrated competency in the care of the elderly patient with respect to geriatric syndromes and any applicable certifications (i.e. Gentle Persuasive Approaches, LEAP, PIECES, etc)
- Knowledge of therapeutic interventions for responsive behaviours in dementia
- Updated nursing skills and demonstrated competency- including but not limited to - aseptic techniques, physical assessments, acute and chronic disease management, post-operative care, pressure injury prevention, wound management and IV therapy
- Demonstrated ability to assess patient/family learning needs and customize and provide meaningful information/education
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills and experience collaborating with patients, families and the interprofessional team
- Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Working knowledge of EPIC/ Order Entry programs an asset
- Competence in interpreting and analyzing data and taking appropriate action/intervention
- Applicant has a demonstrated understanding of Northumberland Hills Hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values
- Applicant has a demonstrated understanding of ‘Person-and-Family-Centered’ Model of Care
Employment Requirements Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
